Discussion for article #247516
Wow, that was fast! Still, I’m suspicious…
He has to appear to be doing his job – not that he actually will – when he’s home in Iowa for Spring Break.
Note that it’s the White House that released this. So Grassley looks either like a wimp or a petty, dishonest jerk. To his constituents. While he’s at home.
wait…there’s an upcoming recess? Hmmmm.
Yep, this is just so Grassley can say “I met with him as is my constitutional duty”. Unless Grassley convinces the rest of the Judiciary committee and the entire Senate to hold an actual hearing, he’s still a lying piece of shit who refuses to do his job.
The Iowa senator released a lengthy statement on Wednesday attacking President Obama for nominating a justice during an election year, saying the appointment was “too important to get bogged down in politics.”
George Orwell couldn’t have stated it better.
Lord, they know not what they do!
Whatta bunch of jokers!
phew he says, saved my ass 1 more time. I am so happy that mcconnell allowed me to pull this off.
now i is impotent again.
Feeling the heat is what’s happening here. Grassley’s been around long enough to know this doesn’t look good for them.
He figures better a center candidate than the flaming liberal nutjob Hiltlery would nominate.
They are running scared. Fucking pricks.
Well, that’s awfully white of him.
Ol’ Marble Mouth lost his marbles many, many years ago.
When you’re a member of Congress, there’s always an upcoming recess!
It just happened to be their best subject in school too.
Lord, they know not what they do!
Whatta bunch of jokers!
Chuck and Merrick have met before, they go back to '95 when Chuck obstructed his nomination at that time. Bob Dole agreed with Chuck.
But Senator Charles Grassley, Republican of Iowa, has said the seat should remain unfilled, not because of Mr. Garland’s qualifications but because the circuit court has too many judges.
“The issue is not Mr. Garland,” Senator Grassley said today through a spokeswoman. “Clearly the evidence does not support filling the vacancy at a cost to taxpayers of $1 million a year,” his estimate of the total cost of an extra judicial chamber.
My preferred scenario: HRC wins the Presidency and the Dems win control of the Senate. During the lame duck session the Pugs try to hurry the Garland nomination through, but Obama withdraws it (or Garland himself withdraws), saying, “The people decided on a new President, so I think she should make her own nomination.”
“Okay I met with 'im, don’t like 'im. There I’m done.”
“too important to get bogged down in politics.”
Then how 'bout you stop bogging it down in fucking politics then?
Translation: “Damn you Obama for nominating someone I approve of, but can’t!”
