Discussion: Grassley Lone GOP Senate Leader To Agree To Meet With Garland

My preferred scenario: Republicans, in disarray over the unreasonableness and unconstitutionality of their actions, will finally succumb to grass-roots pressure from their constituents, and allow a vote within 3 months.

Hey, isn’t this the way that constitutional democracy is supposed to work? Why start out with the assumption that these extraordinary GOP tactics of obstruction must be successful?

If they fail to relent after this effort, they must needs pay a political price. Call your Senators early and often.

If “the voice of the people” says it wants HRC as president in November, wouldn’t it actually be worse to confirm a nominee then when the president elect would be within weeks of being able to make her own nomination than to do so now? That’s assuming we were foolish enough to take the GOP at their word about there reasons now.

Once Grassley meets with him, other Republicans will, too. Not all of them, but most of the Judiciary Committee Republicans. If pressure stays on them, they may actually hold hearings in September, just before the election recess. Anything to turn down the heat, especially if Hillary is up in the polls and the Republican Senators up for reelection are down.

To “stupid” we can now add “weak” as descriptors of Chuck Grassley.

“Please proceed” just has legs beyond it’s initial challenge.

What don’t you like about him?

Crickets.

It may be dawning on these Darwinian Rejects of the GOP that this nomination is likely to be the best option available to them. Should Hillary or Bernie win they will name someone way more leftist. Trump wins? Well, who cares who he names - we will be living in a Trump Dictatorship anyway, am I right? Cruz? Probably name the Antichrist. The only ‘win’ for the Establishment would be Kasich (I’m laughing as I type this). Yeah, that’s a stinky stew for the GOP anyway you cook it.

Grassley has played this mumbly rope-a-dope game his entire career – always kinda-sorta going back on his word when it’s politically expedient, only to switch back the other way in this same obfuscating fashion. Lord knows, it’s not because he’s intelligent – even before he went senile, he was widely known as the stupidest person in the Senate.

If Grassley meets with Garland or even bumps into him socially then McTurtle’s gonna be pissed. McConnell isn’t known for making a hard and fast statement and then backing down. Mitch has said no vote, not hearing and not so much as a “Hi How are ya?”. Why? McConnell is righteously PISSED that Obama chose to do his Constitutionally appointed duty and nominate someone.

According to Mitch, Obama isn’t a legitimate President. because he’s a black man. And elected twice to boot when he was supposed (in Mitch’s world) to be a one term fake President at most.
This is old school racism folks. Find an audio version of McConnell’s statement from this morning and listen carefully to his voice inflection. See if I am wrong.

The thought of the Senate on spring break…
{{{shudder}}} :grimacing:

TPM:

McConnell instead elected to contact Garland by phone Wednesday to reiterate that the Senate would not be confirming his nomination.

What a classy guy. That Mitch, always putting country first, but never, ever, with rudeness.

Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) will meet with newly named Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland after the Senate returns from its upcoming recess

RIIINNNNOOOOO!

McConnell is already dead and we’re hoping Grassley lives until the meeting, although he is displaying increasing zombie signals.

That would be best, a vote in 3 months. But nawh, they’ll blow it faster than Barstool can pull the pants down on her latest soon-to-be baby daddy! Come to think of it, she’d be better off giving him a ****job than…well, you know!

Bwahahahaha!
