Second, Miller’s “highly conservative views on immigration”? Really? Even the NYT is not so circumspect these days in finding a family friendly phrase to convey what was once an oxymoron: “Jewish Nazi.”
It seems to me that every time the immigration Nazis open their mouths, they fire another round into the long-term prospects of the GOP. Not that I mind, it’s just that this just seems so futile and irrational as a strategy, if you’re looking to be competitive in this country’s elections in the next few years.
Hedging his bets I think.

It was a dog whistle to those in the know. He knows Trump does not have a heart.
I think Graham is trying to “handle” Trump with his complimentary comments. After all, foreign leaders have discovered that’s the way to manage his fragile ego.
I think Graham figures he might as well be a Trump whisperer and try to sway him towards his own agenda. Problem is, multiple people are performing the same act, leaving poor Trumpie spinning.
With that cartoonish face, he must at least be “Ho Gidley the 3rd” ?
You know, I thought of that too. Except that Lindsey always swings back to support even the vilest of Dear Leader’s desires. Has he ever one single time actually managed to get His Orange Vileness to change his mind? I can’t think of any – but I can think of puh-lenty of times when Lindsey “criticizes,” then toes the line, loudly flattering Dear Leader for doing exactly what Lindsey had criticized him for. There is no spine.
(And there is no “poor Trumpie”…)

I’d’ve been miffed if “I” had paid $250K for a dinner with The Don and got Don Jr and Eric the Lesser. (Least?) And got Jeanne Pirro to utter the immortal phrase, well Mar-a-Lago is no shithole. He was so vociferous about the DACA ‘behavior’ by DJT that I believe now that this was all a plan by Lindsay to butter him up to get to the ‘right place.’ So I can buy Lindsay’s strategy; I just did not recognize it over the summer.
Lindsay has been eating a shit sandwich hanging out with DJT to get the DACA people ‘regularized’ and I honor him for it.
ETA: I mean, Lindsay was the one who came right back at Trump about the ‘shithole’ comment.

Miller has come to be widely viewed — unfairly, White House officials argue — as something of a puppeteer, helping to shape and scuttle deals for a president who doesn’t understand — or care to understand — the details.
There was a suggestion that we had a President Kelly and a VP Miller. Maybe the other way around.

why does even TPM have to play with this false “highly conservative” terminology? Miller’s views are not “conservative” at all, since they do not apply to his own family, and as we’ve heard it seems very unlikely these “views” apply to say, Norwegians or even the first lady. His views are RACIST. He does not want BLACK OR BROWN people coming to this country, and that’s it. For everyone else he has no such “conservative” views.
Miller can’t negotiate a shutdown, only cause it.
