It pleases me that Graham criticizes the WH and Miller specifically, but it seems to be temporary tactical window dressing rather than a permanent stand on principle.

The White House response is designed to help solve the problem how? Graham is giving the White House the perfect fall guy. They aren’t taking it. Their response is intended to make a solution even harder. It is almost as though Stephen Miller wrote the response.

That seems to be Graham’s ploy–goad Trump into asserting his dominance by overruling Miller. I’m not sure it will work. He might need to scrawl it in crayon on a napkin and send it in a bag of KFC.

The Republicans aren’t too upset about the shutdown, I’m guessing, at this point. They want to deport dreamers and DACA kids and portray Democrats as putting everything on the line for “brown people.” They don’t care. This attitude has worked miracles for them, as we all know. If we’re waiting for Republicans to come around to “caring” about people, we’ll be waiting a long time.

Persecution, oppression and torture of brown and black people has been a winning hand for a few hundred years. It’s understandable Caucasians feel comfortable sticking with an old playbook.
