Discussion: Graham: If Trump Camp Talked With Russia, We Need A Select Committee

“If in fact there are campaign contacts between Trump officials and Russian intelligence officers that would be a very serious event and would justify the Senate forming a Select Committee to look at all things related to Russia,” Graham said…

Uhhh, how 'bout you establish a Select Committee to investigate whether there are “campaign contacts between trump officials and Russian intelligence officers”?? Mebbe that way you could answer your own question?

BOOM. There it is. Sitting there on the table, steaming away.

This may very well be a very short presidency.

Kinda worried about what President Pence is going to be like, though. He’s competent and evil, at least the current jokers have been so incompetent that they haven’t been able to do any real harm.

So, I’m not sure I’m getting this right. Is Graham saying a select committee of Congress or an independent special committee appointed by Congress? Sorry, my eyes are bad today.

this needs to be a special prosecutor independent of any congressional influence, period

otherwise any investigation will be a political farce

we should be hesitant to buy into Pence as the one left in the dark, I believe he knows more than people think (based on when he came on to the campaign and the activities that were occurring at that time)

We can fight Pence just as hard. He’s less likely to start a devastating war and destroy civilization.

You have all the evidence you need. Go to it. Jayzus, do they expect the media and the spooks to do all their work for them? Apparently. And I suppose it will happen. All of the sordidness will come out and it will be as bad as we’re thinking. Whether it comes out in leaks, or in a Congressional investigation or by Wikileaks, it will be known. This is not 1963. The only question is, whether the GOP will end up looking like they favor country over party or not. Their history suggests they will not.

Precisely, because even a select committee led by Republicans can limit subpoena power by a minority member I would think. No telling what other constraints they would put on minority participants on the committee. (ETA: they’d probably pull Rule #27 out of their asses to shut down serious inquiry from what they would consider a partisan point of view).

It needs to be a special committee with chosen committee members from each party led by a special prosecutor. Anything short of that is bullpucky.

Were it not for the leaks, we wouldn’t know any of this is going on. The people who are leaking the info are brave individuals doing a service for this country. They should not be punished.

I expect they will form a Select Committee, just as soon as Trump has been impeached.

“The Russians have been trying to break the backbone of democracies all over the world, and clearly in my view, interfered in the 2016 election.”

Graham might be a knucklehead in a variety of ways, but if you step back and consider that a leading Senate Republican has just openly admitted that the Russians ratfucked an American Presidential election, Trump is in a very bad place.

Combine that with the fact that the American IC is seriously pissed at Trump, and it’s even worse for him.

And combine that with the fact that Trump owes many, many millions of dollars to Putin-controlled Russian banksters who expect very specific favors from him, it’s even worser for him.

Pence will be too tainted by association to inflict much harm. Trump is the Mr. Hanky, the Christmas Poo of politics. Everything he touches comes away with a disqualifying shit stain.

Hey Lindsey, Remember how Watergate got started? Your statement doesn’t…

She would be among the first on my list of witnesses, but without a special prosecutor, she would end up be ravaged by partisan attacks against her. And let’s not forget Comey. He’s gonna get it from all sides, methinks.

Doesn’t it all depend on who gets to select it?
