Discussion: Gowdy Says He Hasn't Seen Evidence Of Trump's Wild Wiretapping Claim

So Gowdy apparently still has at least a momentary shred of dignity…

Hemmer asked Gowdy if he had anything to add to Chaffetz’s comments, and in response the South Carolina Republican took the opposite tack.

“I don’t view it as the Obama team,” Gowdy said. “I don’t think the FBI is the Obama team, and I don’t think the men and women who are career prosecutors at DOJ belong to any team other than a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales.”

Has anyone ever remarked about the similarity to Slade “Skeletor” Gorton?
Minus the brains, of course.

Why Is Trump Returning to Birther-Style Attacks on Obama?
Attempts to delegitimize Barack Obama are a classic page in the Trump playbook.

. . . There is, however, an unmistakable familiarity to Trump’s latest accusations against Obama. Without knowing whether Trump’s tweets were based on an intelligence report, a news report, a conspiracy theory, or something else entirely—one must consider the possibility that the unsubstantiated claims are, in fact, a political strategy. Trump has peddled a lie as a way to delegitimize Obama in the past.

“An ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office,” Trump tweeted on August 6, 2012, “and told me that @BarackObama’s birth certificate is a fraud.”

This was more than a year after Obama had publicly shared a copy of his birth certificate.

Trump reached for a classic tactic of his: Shock and distract.

Gowdy needs to dip his entire head in astringent every few hours. The guy exudes oil literally and figuratively, to a ridiculous extreme. It’s gross.

During Trump’s impeachment someone might want to ask Rep Gowdy what did he know and when did he know it.

It’s a nothing burger. Make no mistake, Trey Gowdy is the enemy…and the enemy of our enemy is…still our enemy. But he may prove useful if he turns his evil powers against Lil’ Donny.

Trump: Gowdy needs to have a multi-year investigation, just like he did for Hillary. Breitbart claims must be investigated.
Chaffetz: Yes Sir!

He is making the point that hasn’t been emphasized enough. The force of Trump’s ridiculous accusation is that the FBI is massively corrupt, since even if Obama had wanted such a thing to happen, only the FBI would have the means to carry it out. It’s really more of an attack on the IC than on Obama.

Trey Gowdy wouldn’t see a soul-less vampire staring back at himself in a house of mirrors.

I think giving Gowdy credit for any shred of dignity is going a bit too far . . . He is merely trying to give himself a bit of cover here since he’s not insane enough to believe Trump’s claim.

Trump’s really screwed if he can’t even get Gowdy-Doody on his side.

Fox News’ Bill Hemmer noted that Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the House Oversight Chairman, said earlier on the network that the Obama administration had “been notorious on this type of stuff.”

One thing I noticed in the last election, and since, is that we’ve gone from a scenario where there was at least some minute kernel of data to back up the wild assertions to a point where no data is required. Those on the right feel free to say any damn thing they want without regard to whether it even makes sense, much less displaying any regard for the truth, or reality.

After taking an 11-hour beating from Clinton, Gowdy doesn’t want to spend even 11 minutes facing Obama.
