Interesting. And probably a good example of why its a really bad idea to attack your own DoJ while you and your cohorts are under investigation.

My guess is, this lawsuit is going to be tossed. Challenging the authority of a guy who is specifically given wide authority to prosecute anything, isn’t much of an argument.

Did DOJ check with Trump and Nunes before filing this motion? Better not make any moves without getting proper authorization.

A reasonable comment, given this White House; but when Manafort was indicted, the official WH statement said, in essence, he’s on his own.

"Today’s announcement has nothing to do with the president, has nothing to do with the president’s campaign or campaign activity,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

Stupid is as Donald does.

Pissing off Ku Klux Keebler probably not the smartest move in trying to save your bigly orange ass, Donnie.

STUPID IS AS DONALD DOES should be a bumper sticker. I’ll buy 100.

Yes, the lawsuit will get tossed, on several grounds, among them, the civil court lacks jurisdiction, (yet).

The Judge hearing the criminal case has suggested that the suit should be moved to her court.

I’ve got a million issues with Sessions, but it seems that he is trying to keep the DOJ functioning. Granted, he wants it to function because he wants to enforce many brutal policies. Nevertheless, he really needs to stand up to the Republican nut jobs on this. He’s not doing an outstanding job of it right not, but he’s been stronger than I had expected him to be. He refused to be pushed out of office, and he has stood up - to some degree - for his department. It seems that the Keebler elf has, or is growing, something resembling a spine.

The government says in a court filing Friday that a judge should throw out that suit.

Here’s what the government should have said:

This is not a suit to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.

(With apologies to the divine Miss Parker, who had the misfortune of having to review a bodice-ripper written by a certain Italian strongman.)

Robert Mueller’s (MUHL’-urs)

Donald Trump’s (BULL’-shit-urs)

I couldn’t figure who the judge is. It matters to a horrific degree now that more partisan hacks have been appointed by Trump to add to the handful of Bush and Reagan appointees who would go so far as to soil their reputations on behalf of the Orange Monster.

A wonderful interview by my favorite podcaster (Jacob Weisberg) of the Atlantic’s Franklin Foer about Manafort’s desperate situation — before Trump hired him. It’s absolutely astounding — and scary — that Mr. HIres-the-Best-People got snookered by this washed-up scumbag;

Ex-Trump Campaign Head and still current advisor, always remember this.

Page, worked for Trump, as did Papadope and Manafort and Gates, etc., etc.

These are now indicted and convicted members of this investigation and further into the devious underworld of Donald J Crookmeister.

Manafort shouldn’t have been free when he was hired by Trounce in the first place.
He shouldn’t ever have been allowed to alter the GOP’s agenda concerning the Ukraine, his way to payback his debtors btw.

Frivolous lawsuits won’t save him and neither will Nunes. In fact, I think he’s unsavable. There are deathtraps waiting for him around every corner.
Prison is his best shot, or suicide with a death of his own choosing at least.

For a full (or at least better) understanding of this whole mess I would suggest reading Collusion by Luke Harding

Initials on the motion to dismiss are ABJ, so the judge is Amy Berman Jackson. She was appointed by Obama and her nomination was confirmed 97-0.

I understand your concern about partisanship, but with the possible exception of judges appointed by Trump I think the vast majority of federal judges, regardless of by whom they were appointed, would view this lawsuit from a non-political perspective.

Sessions had nothing to do with it. In addition to the fact that Sessions has recused himself from matters relating to Mueller’s investigation, Civil Division attorneys do not have to get permission from the AG to file a motion to dismiss.

Manafort is as slimy as they come. The excellent Atlantic article lays it all out. He would do his family a service by taking his lumps and going away quietly.

Also, Sessions won’t leave because he gave up a cushy Senate seat and he’d have to go back to real work. But, the deeper reason he’s stayed (and put up with humiliation from Drumpf) is because it’s far more important to him to prosecute blacks, Hispanics, liberals and anyone else he can attack and abuse. His mission is to essentially purge the US of black people; he’s Drumpf’s Joseph Goebbels.

He has already hurt his family and if he keeps it up, they may become pawns in the efforts to get to him, and the money.
I can’t see the US allowing him to keep all of the assets he came by illicitly and whatever his old bosses are owed, they’ll come after as well.

He may be the reason why Trumpty Dumpty didn’t impose any more sanctions on Russia but that isn’t doing him a bit of good now.
