One of the those little things that drive me fucking crazy about press conventions is how they cannot report a motion to dismiss, of any kind, for any reason, at any stage, without using the words “throw out.” It’s just fucking moronic. It’s like describing an appendectomy, a tonsillectomy, a bowel resection, and a Whipple procedure alike as “ripping out.”
In the criminal case: Amy Jackson.
In Manafort’s civil suit: originally, Ketanji Jackson (no relation), but it may be a highly unamused Amy Jackson who ends up disposing of it.
Manafort’s attorneys in the civil suit are not inexperienced, so one wonders what they were smoking.
Reminds me of the old joke:
What did Jeffrey Dahmer say to Lorena Bobbitt?
“Hey … um … are you going to eat that?”
No wonder Sessions was so complimentary of Rosenstein and Rachel Brand yesterday at DOJ as the Nunes memo was being released.
There is other evidence that DOJ will actively resist attempts to politicize it or make it Trump’s law firm. This motion is the opposite of the Nunes memo. It actively defends Mueller.
This trend will likely continue. Sessions is a weak man. More than anything else, I think he just wants TO BE Attorney General. His best strategy for achieving that is to support Rosenstein, who is a survivor and knows what Mueller knows. If Trump fired Rosenstein, Sessions would be next.
I don’t see Rosenstein looking weak in the knees.
There in no reason.to think that Rachel Brand, the Associate Attorney General, would fire or interfere with Mueller. She was a Bush appointee as an Assistant Attorney General and was appointed by Obama to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.
Trump has the likes of Nunes. Trump’s opponents have an army of lawyers, the judiciary, and the FBI.
It’s in his best interest. He seemed jovial yesterday at DOJ complimenting Rosenstein and saying he is just the kind of person “we want at the Department.”
I believe the proper term in these instances is “excise”, but I have heard a lot less delicate phrases.
She’s a member of the Federalist Society, which doesn’t mean she’ll jump when Trump says to jump, but it’s not exactly a good sign, either.
Point, but the larger point may be that the Saturday Night Massacre failed or isn’t going to happen at all.
This whole operation does not seem to have been well executed.
Let’s just say that, so far, it seems the swamp is draining him.
"Manafort is one of four people charged SO FAR in Mueller’s investigation."
Hoping Manafort, Flynn, Papadopoulos and Gates are merely the appetizer to the main course.
Folks, this move by the DOJ lawyers has nothing to do with Sessions. Whoever has been assigned the case has looked at the matter on its merits and decided that Manafort’s suit simply discloses no sustainable cause of action. That’s a matter of basic legal reasoning, not guidance from Sessions. Sessions gets no props here at all. Zero.
Paul’s last ditch will turn witness on Trump.
Please, it’s proper name is Feudalist Society.
