Who is Walker? The name does not appear elsewhere in the article.

Actually the original story in the Tampa Bay Times says, “Gov. Rick Scott said Thursday that his administration won’t appeal a federal court ruling that the state illegally tried to purge the voter rolls of suspected noncitizens too close to the 2012 presidential election.” (Bolded emphasis mine)
Big difference.

I’m not sure, but I think that was a mixup by the TPM editor between Gov. Scott of Florida and Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin.

I suppose you’re right, but I wondered if he or she wasn’t Scott’s press secretary, or a spokesperson for the people who brought the suit.

Yes, I think there’s a crucial difference between the two write-ups.
When I read the story here, Scott’s actions didn’t seem objectionable. But the original story makes a crucial point that was lost here.

Good catch. I missed it.
I thought that too. I have no objections to them purging legitimate confirmed non-citizens from the voter rolls. But that is not what they were doing, and not what they were found guilty of. I wonder why those two words were taken out, because it completely changes the piece. I would say it was deliberate, but TPM has a vested business interest in making Scott seem like a bad guy, not sympathetic.
