Well, in their defense they were very busy trying to repeal Obamacare for the 80th hundred time! s/

Does “They” in the headline refer to the GOP? Why would they face long odds? They are the majority. No one is stopping them.

“In fact, the president and his administration have spoken favorably of Special Counsel Mueller’s professionalism and integrity, and recent reports indicate the investigation may soon come to an end.”

Uh-huh. Those “reports” were targetted at donnie - didn’t expect anyone else to be stupid enough to beleive them.

Trump GOP Congress logic: why make murder illegal if no one has been killed yet?

Republicans are fools not to back these bills and pass them ASAP. It’s time to put a little breathing room between the party and Trump, if the party is to have any future

Then again, they were fools to nominate him, so…

So Trump is going to try persuading us he doesn’t exist?

They don’t dare until after primary season – otherwise they’ll be challenged by Trump’s base.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity at first questioned the New York Times’ reporting, but when his own network confirmed the story, he argued that Trump had the right to question Mueller’s credibility.

Now from Erik Wemp;e of the Washington Post, we have documentation of Sean Hannity last JUNE, providing Media cover for some of Trump’s eventual pretexts for ordering Mueller’s firing. If I am not mistaken, Newt Gingrich actually ran a WaPo Op Ed and appeared on Television at around the same time to promote the Mueller conflicts of interest and needs to be fired talking points/pretexts.

This surprised me too, the suicidal recklessness and failure to see the obvious end. But they’ve spent decades chasing anyone with integrity, common sense, public-spiritedness, or bravery out of the party. They’re all cowards, bootlicks and time-servers now. They know how it’s going to go. But they’re cowering in a mass, each one thinking that when the end comes he’ll slip out a back door and get away.

How wonderful the day will be when we no longer have to look at McConnell’s face, that little smirk, the frog chin … god, I will rejoice. We’ve had to look at it for so goddamn long.

In response to why they haven’t passed these bills, I suspect that they know they’ve got nothing - absolutely zero - in terms of message, brand, anything at all positive. Why no one has followed Jeff Flake has remained a mystery to me - they’d be prime presidential material for 2020.

The GOPers are being complicit because the Russian bots are on their side!

As long as they cooperate, they will receive the benefits of what damage the Russia bots will do to our country every single day!

Our children’s futures are at risk folks!!!

So when Trump actually does fire Mueller, and I’m guessing he will within the next two to three months (just going with the gut!) what will actually happen?

The media will bewail a “Constitutional Crisis-OMG” but what will actually happen? Will The GOP House start impeachment proceedings? Will Trump’s Cabinet resign en masse, or in any numbers? Will the Military remove Trump from office?

I mean really, he can legally fire him I guess so if he does, and everybody knows it’s wrong, but will they actually do anything about it? Will the Democrats in Congress take action besides no votes and strongly worded letters? Will the media hue and cry make a difference?

I think nothing happens and then if we are lucky enough to have an election in November it’s 50/50 whether the Democrats take over by a landslide, or the GOP/Trump Putinize it and finish off democracy once and for all.

We’re counting on Republicans to do something hard and non corporately incentivized, and morally right here, after all, so what are the chances of the party of Mitch “Supreme Thief” McConnell and Paul “Child Molester Rules Rule” Ryan after all.
“In fact, the president and his administration have spoken favorably of Special Counsel Mueller’s professionalism and integrity, and recent reports indicate the investigation may soon come to an end.”
Sen. Thom Tillis’ (R-NC) spokesperson Daniel Keylin continued, “Sen. Tillis believes that President Trump is the kindest, warmest, bravest, most wonderful human being he’s ever known in his life. There’s really no reason for all this hullabaloo.”

They’re crazy entitled evil old men, to be sure, but it’s not clear the party has a future (as anything like a conventional political party) in any case. If they put daylight between the party and trump, they also put daylight between the party and the 25% deadenders. Who will either primary them, stay home, or start turning violent.

And given the NRA investigations and the possibility of other cutouts for Putin, some of them may be hedging their bets about whether there will come a point when they want Mueller fired.

OT: But TPM has had nothing about the Steve Wynn scandal. He is the RNC finance chair and a friend of POTUS. I do note that there is a piece up on someone Hilary would not fire due to harassment allegations.

We spent days on Weinstein and Al Franken. Franken was eviscerated and resigned from the Senate over allegations. Wynn gets to skate? Why?

As of Friday afternoon, Republicans in Congress were not exactly rushing to promote legislation protecting the special counsel, even as their Democratic colleagues urged them to do so.

They’re far more interested in protecting tRumps talks with Putin
