Discussion: GOP Sen. Toomey On Leaving Scalia Seat Vacant: 'It's Not That Big A Deal'

Discussion for article #246187

It’s one third of the US govt. It’s a big deal. Especially since only two thirds of the US govt is earning a paycheck.

One-third of my body is missing a part essential to my health, but it’s not that big a deal.

“I think that it’s more reasonable for the American people to have a more direct say in that process, which they will do through the election of the president knowing now with certainty that the next president is going to make this really important pick.”

But you just said it’s not that big a deal.

Idiot.

Is it Toomey or Portman? The photo is not of Toomey. Toomey’s forehead is much, much bigger.

It’s Portman

We’ll see how you feel when a 4-4 split vote means that the ruling of a lower, far more liberal, circuit is allowed to stand.

“I think the question before us now is … should the outgoing president fundamentally change the balance of the court for the next one or two generations?”

Yes. Most definitely.

Especially considering he’s not the “outgoing president” yet… If you still wake up in the White House from time to time, and if nobody’s been elected to replace you, you’re not the fucking “outgoing president”.

Toomey is my senator (up for re-election). We really, really need to vote out that fucker, but looks like it’s going to be an uphill battle.

I think we need to hit these vulnerable Senators non-stop because they are:

  1. Violating the U.S. Constitution.
  2. Shutting down the Supreme Court.
  3. Preventing the Supreme Court from protecting the rights of women.
  4. Preventing the Supreme Court from protecting the rights of Hispanics.
  5. Preventing the Supreme Court from protecting the environment.
  6. Leaving the Republic to face unknown crises without a fully functioning government.
  7. Taking direct orders from out-of-state TEA Party bosses rather than serving their constituents.

“Wouldn’t it be great if a conservative president could appoint a conservative judge?” is not an argument against constitutional responsibilities.

They are also pissing off old people, like my mom, who object not so much to the constitutional outrageousness, but to being so crass and tacky about a dead man they purportedly loved.

Listen up you lying POS…it IS a ‘big deal’. After whining and sniveling about the Constitution for 7+ years and how Obama! is driving this country to ruin you’d better start sticking up for the fear mongering you’ve thrown out there. GOD!!!

I think outgoing, or up for reelection, Senators should have no right to vote for anything in an election year. It’s that goose/gander thing.

Edited cuz I leave out important words … DOH!

There are a bunch of cases shortly to be before the Court that are near and dear to the conservatives and their game plan. Now the Court would be evenly divided. So it looks to me, Sen. Toomy like it’s a VERY BIG deal. Now, you can deny reality if you choose but I wouldn’t suggest it long term. Say until 2017. Because the next POTUS ain’t gonna be a GOPer.
