I’ve thought about this a bit and the only thing I can come up with for why he thought this might make sense is if he has no idea what Daughters of the American Revolution means. Or if he figures a bunch of undecided voters don’t know either.
I think part of this stems from the effects of his stroke. He’s been able to speak through press releases for a while, but when he and Duckworth both spoke to the Tribune editorial board, it was apparent to them that “due to forces beyond his control, Kirk no longer can perform to the fullest the job of a U.S. senator.” Politically, I wanted him out years ago. But even if he were a Dem, I’d want him to step down. Probably. 
I read a book about the Bataan Death March and prisoners in World War II. One of the prisoners was a General Duckworth. I’ve always wondered if he were a forebear of Tammy. Does anyone know?

Colonel James W. Duckworth, Medical Corps, US Army, was commanding officer of Army hospitals on Bataan. Tammy’s father was a Marine Corps veteran of WW II so they are not the same person. Tammy’s father didn’t die until 2005 so it’s unlikely that he was a full colonel in 1942. In the picture of Tammy’s father, I note a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with combat clasp, and at least one Purple Heart, so he wasn’t just along for the ride. Whether Colonel Duckworth and Tammy’s father were related, I don’t know.
His stroke does not explain why he did not issue an apology. He is a disgrace. So are any staffers who stay with him after his failure to apologize.
I think his expression might be a result of his stroke.
His pettiness is a different story, but maybe not.
Astounding that condescending non-serving folke like Kirk and Trump can still get 30 to 40% in a poll. Sure some of the folks that support them don’t know or don’t believe but I bet a lot of them know and just don’t think it’s a big deal. That’s what is so astounding. I’m guessing those supporters are probably just as pathetic if not more so.
Guess that stroke Kirk had was worse than we thought.
I guess since he’s getting waxed in the election, Kirk has also had “the shackles” removed. Let your racist flag fly, Mark!
