Discussion: GOP Sen. Bob Corker Considering Retiring In 2018

How we gonna be able to tell?
It won’t even decrease the noise level. Not noticeably, anyway.

Run away while you can, asshole.

Corker is what’s called a “moderate” among today’s Republican senators. He’s usually a fairly reasonable voice on foreign policy matters.

Democrats don’t have much chance in Tennessee, so we’ll end up with somebody much, much more extreme if he retires.

Is this what you call a trial balloon?

Rep. Blackburn has her eyes on Corker’s chair.

Outside of TN, does anyone care what his plans are?

Dear Lord, Marsha Blackburn has her eyes on the Senate?? God help us!!

Each retirement announcement increases the likelihood of the next - no one wants to be the last one left with Gohmert, Farenthold, King, and Rohrabacher (or in this case, Cruz, Cotton, and Cassidy).

Harold Ford lost by a whisper. Mostly the whisper campaign that he’d been fucking white women at the Playboy mansion. There are so many seats up for grabs, it doesn’t even make sense. Everything is on the table.

Apparently the feeling is, this is the srongest Dem candidate to have run for a statewide race in TN in a long, long time.

If Corker retires, Gov. Haslam will run for the seat.

We are likely to get a Democratic governor next year in the person of Karl Dean, former mayor of Nashville. Like Corker, he is rich enough to self-fund his election—but Haslam is a billionaire and can spend enough to win the Senate seat if he runs.

Mackler is a sharp cookie, and could make it a good race, especially if Corker retires.

As I noted in another post, Karl Dean is looking good for the governor’s race.

Too bad. Corker is decent. I rarely agree with him but I listen to him. As to Trump’s tweet pretending Corker would EVER ask his ‘advice’, again, I am amazed at the middle school taunting and the ability of Republican Senators to just bat it away…

Corker said. “We spend a lot of time together. We play golf.

That means an extraordinary amount of time.

Like a full Lutheran service followed by a Catholic mass…followed by an Orthodox service…followed by a potluck. I can’t believe people pay for that torture.

Is there a Democrat–a new voice, probably–who might surprise with a win?

Could it be that GOP rats are abandoning the ship?

If only that were true.

Corker is a multi-millionaire developer whose wife and daughters hate politics and don’t engage in any of it.

He’s also no dummy, and he sees the GOP descending into a world of hurt, politically speaking, and I doubt he wants anything to do with it.
I’ve known him for years, although I’ve known his wife a lot longer.

It’s not as if Corker hasn’t tried to stroke Trump’s ego. Of Trump’s visit to the Middle East where he practically bowed and scraped to the Saudis, Corker said that Trump had conducted his first foreign visit to perfection. So, it’s not as if Corker hasn’t tried to be a good toady.
