How many of them will stand up and vote when the time comes? And will they vote to override the inevitable veto?
(No, I have no hope that the Senate will actually override. But that vote could play a part in convincing courts to act.)
The GOP is revolting! Sorry, couldn’t resist…
A handful is a revolt? The headlines drive me crazy.
Yeah, Rubio. I’ll bet you are so upset at Trumps emergency declaration that you’ll hold your breath until you turn traitor.
Oh, no news on whether Susan Collins is “concerned” about this action by Trump?
I guess we see who drew short straw for a brief stint in the Concern Caucus. They’ve been so busy under this president they need fresh troops to stand up, threaten to fight, then sit down.
Rand Paul will fold like he always does. The only question is what it will cost us to buy his vote
Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins’ (R-ME) disapproval was hardly surprising, given the pair often break with Trump’s agenda.
Please tell me where they actually have broken with the orange turd’s agenda and voted against it? I can not seem to remember when this actually happened. Hand wringing and spewing BS, I remember with each issue, but actually voting what they speak. Never.
How about this for a headline? GOP is Revolting: Republican Weak Tea as Usual. Sorry, didn’t see earlier post from lcale.
And yet they will probably all, or nearly all, cave in and do what they can to let him have his way. Worrying about how a future Democratic administration might use the same tactic is just too much thinking for them to consider seriously.
Part of the wall will be made of leaves and brush piled over into mexican territory and burned.
None and no. Maybe Murkowski for a vote, never for a veto.
It will be an epidemic of spine-failure.
The vote that matters is getting to 51. That makes clear that congress expressly disagrees with Trump, and raises (a) a question about the constitutionality “as applied” of the Nation Emergency Act, (b) and puts Trump into the lowest category of power “lowest ebb” under Youngstown Steel.
Given that there will be 51 (Collins, Murkowski, and probably a few institutionalists like Alexander, perhaps Grassley vote for it) so the real question is if those up in 2020 will take a bullet for Trump. And the vote is particularly hard since Trump is stealing military construction funds that is supposed to building housing for the troops.
Given how is up in 2020 and vulnerable:
Gardner (CO)
Collins (ME)
McSalley (AZ)
Thom Tillis (NC)
Joni Ernst (IA)
David Perdue (GA)
And I think that Cornyn (TX) is vulnerable as well, and the wall is NOT very popular in Texas, so its a very bad issue for him to take a stand on.
None of these senators will be helped by going along with an illegal theft of money (which will come from military construction funds) by Trump.
Absolute firebrands for American Democracy and Justice! These bold statements should be carved on a bathroom stall in Trump Tower to stand for all time as a beacon to anyone listening to the echo of their own flatulence!
The current immigration situation is optimal for business Republicans, because it provides illegal low wage workers that can be exploited. They have prevented immigration law from being enforced against employers, and I expect they will oppose reduction of illegal immigration if it becomes necessary.
Dear TPM friends: In these troubled times, let’s hold close the wise words of Josh Marshall (at a previous time of crisis) when he talked of the “principled” GOP Senators, who expressed “concern” and even “disdain” at some of the antics of Putin’s Puppet.
Remember what he said, of our friends, Collins and Rubio and Rand Paul, etc. etc.
“THEY ALWAYS CAVE”.
The only instance where Murkowski and Collins actually VOTED (as opposed to hand-wringing & pearl-clutching) against a Drumpf-supported bill or nominee
was the healthcare demolition bill.
The one where John McCain stuck a fork in it.
“Yeah, they stink on ice”
