Discussion: GOP Rep Who Settled Misconduct Claim Says Younger Aide Was 'A Soul Mate'

Family values style hypocritical crapweasel.

Try this with your SO and see how it flies:

Meehan said he told the aide that he was “happily married” and “not interested in a relationship, particularly not any sexual relationship.”

“But we were soul mates,”

He just wanted to see how many times 67 could go into 25. Sad.

Meehan claimed that he remained loyal to his wife throughout and said that “in hindsight” he should have considered his position of power over the aide, but claimed “there is no hierarchy” in his office.

Oh, yeah, I’m sure it’s like an autonomous collective of fully equal participants, of which he is just one more equal partner making all decisions – including hiring and firing – collectively with the rest of his “team-mates.”

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I’m guessing she didn’t feel he was her soul mate?

Meehan claimed that he lashed out against the aide when she told him she was in a relationship because he was stressed about Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare.

D00d, when repealing Obamacare causes you to hurt the ones you love, maybe think differently?

Meehan said he told the aide that he was “happily married” and “not interested in a relationship, particularly not any sexual relationship.”

“But we were soul mates,” he said. “I think that the idea of soul mate is that sort of person that out go through remarkable experiences together.”

Am betting his wife just loves that… :eyes:

Meehan said he would repay the settlement, which he referred to as a “severance” and which was paid from public funds, if the committee he serves on determines that his behavior constituted harassment.

Say what? You dumb mofo sumabitch representative of mine. I always knew you were batshit crazy.

You’ll have to sell that one to the guy who just bought magic beans that will become a bridge when they grow.

Meehan called the aide “a complete partner” who brought him “much happiness.”

…we were soul mates

You should have stopped at “very creepy.”

Paging team Meehan. Pull your teammate away from all microphones and cameras.

Isn’t that the same excuse Mary Jo Laturneaux gave when she got pregnant by her sixth grade student – twice?

And here, ladies and gentlemen, is an almost perfect example of a man who just does not have even the foggiest idea of when to STFU.

Alright, then let’s hear your remarks on those “remarkable experiences.”

Damn! You’d think if you’re paying … maybe you could get a little squeeze, or something. Jeebus, life is so unfair!

1 / Wives everywhere are howling at these lame statements. At least they should be. Team Meehan, ha!

2 / Can’t wait to see who else is on Team Trump. Stormy has been benched with $130k and Hope Hicks is the current receiver.

With all of my heart?

He sounds like a lovesick teenager. Like one of his three sons…

honestly this think this is a bit on the franken spectrum, though I’d like to hear from the victim, I’d need more details. It sounds unprofessional, easily misconstrued, it’s clear he was infatuated with her and projected an anima perfection onto this woman. Yelling at her when he heard she was in a relationship definitely enters hostile work environment, grounds for a severance and moving on. This isn’t to say I tolerate that behavior but to differentiate between a Roy Moore, a Trump, and a Franken or this person…

Sadly this man is my congressman. It’s hardly a secret that he’s not the brightest bulb. But the sheer stupidity of this “explanation” is quite astounding nevertheless. Not only has he greatly increased the likelihood of the end of his congressional career, he’s also greatly increased the likelihood of the end of his marriage. (Hint to men who are “happily married”: never under any circumstances call another woman your “soul mate.” I know. Is should be obvious without saying, but…)

The woman ended up moving out of the country! She was totally traumatized.
