Well, a small indicator that may sum up the general state of things, there was a recent public radio clip about a local research scientist who has no idea if and when he will lose his job.
He is not able to get any sort of answer when he asks. He just sits around waiting for his paycheck to stop coming.

While this administration has a scandal a day the R’s never seem to get around to investigating any of them. When B.O. was in office they (R’s) had non-stop investigations into anything and everything the Dems did. Of course nothing came of them, but now that there is real fire and not just smoke they do nothing.

Putting things in the passive voice sounds almost innocuous. “Mistakes were made”… “It should not have happened”.
At least Bill used the active voice when he lied: “I never had sexual relations with that woman.”
