Discussion: GOP Rep. Says Trump Was A 'Factor' In His Decision To Retire (VIDEO)

It’s a factor. Like my belief that the sun will rise tomorrow is a factor. Like if he were outa here, I’d be calling donors right now.

Quitter.

Dave Trott is unelectable! Sad.

A swing district and a possible Democratic pick-up next year.

Trump: This is true. I am doing the job for many many people in the House. They have nothing to do so they can spend the valuable time with their family. I save people money and make a family strong. I am The Bestest.

@ohcomeonnow Yep. Any day now he’ll propose reducing the numbers of Reps and Senators as a cost-cutting measure. With a few lapdogs and lickspittles to do his bidding, America will be great…again.

Shorter Dave Trott: “My salary on K-Street will be much higher if I quit vs. if I get my ass handed to me by a Democrat.”

But then, I didn’t have 63 million people vote for me ever,

Actually…neither did Trump…

Swing district?

Trott won by 15 points in 2014 and by 12 in 2016.

Many other GOP Congressmen have the Trotts, and are running for the nearest exit.

He could have been a tad more forceful. He didn’t need this job and he could have helped clean up his party.

He may be on the up and up. Rep’s don’t get the cush retirement until they’ve put in a long 6 years. That’s why so many bail after just 6. This guy is in his second term so something has him wanting change.

We’re working on it! The Democrats have 2 very compelling women running for the nomination and either one would be fantastic.
Honestly, Trott is retiring because his constituents are plotting to set him on fire if he shows his face again. He hasn’t done any constituent meetings in the district since 2000 of us showed up in a blizzard at the last one in April. It was, shall we say, energetic.

OTOH the presidential in 2016 was much closer in that district (45.3-49.7), and midterm elections are generally tough ones for a new president… and the new president here is The Fuckin’ Moron.

So, while it may still be a long shot it may not be entirely impossible either, with a good candidate and money.

Here’s what Nate Cohn said a few months ago.

So far, four Republicans have announced they will not seek re-election in highly competitive districts (with a Cook Partisan Voter Index of Republican+5 or more Democratic; the Cook P.V.I. measures district partisanship based on its vote in recent presidential elections).

They are Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (representing Florida’s 27th District), Dave Reichert (Washington’s Eighth), Charlie Dent (Pennsylvania’s 15th) and Dave Trott (Michigan’s 11th).

Cook, indeed, puts this CD under “Republican Tossup.” Cook PVI is currently R+4.

He wasn’t going to be winning it in 2018. The district is pretty angry with him. He’s been in the Congressional version of the witness protection program for the majority of this year. His staff has arrested protestors at his office multiple times this year.

That’s some punchable face, yes…

It would have been good that the win margin and this would have been brought up during his interview.

He’s awful. This district used to be held by the moderate-ish Thad McCotter and then after Thad forgot that you can’t forge nominating petition signatures, was held by a professional Santa Claus, (no, really,) and then Trott, who became fantastically rich foreclosing on people hurt by the 2008 economic crash. The district deserves better.

ETA: The 11th district is pretty wealthy and the Republicans here are mostly college educated yuppie types. They’re pretty mortified at Trump saying the quiet parts loud. They’re more used to dog whistles and not air raid claxons.
