They don’t just look at the past election results for one Representative to determine the PVI rating. There are many factors that go into one particular race…money spent, name recognition, strength of opponent, etc., so a broader range of factors is considered. Trump and Romney (favorite son) only won it by 5 points. Obama won it by 10 points in 2008. W won it by only 5 and 6 points.
Trott won in 2014 by basically money bombing all his opponents, both in the primary and the general election. I don’t know how big his war chest is, but generally speaking, money is drying up for republicans.

How anyone in Michigan can vote for a Republican is simply beyond me. Their state “Government” is full to the rafters with crooks and grafters. Their Governor is a joke among jokes.
But what have “democrats” done for them lately, rather than to them like the Republican Gonfifs have?
All this is a reflection of why they lost the state in 2016.
Michigan is a sore example of the States that “democrats” now have to win back, after having had them blue for decades.
The DNC can’t seem to find Michigan on a map, excepting every fourth year, if then.
Rather than hearing a bunch of people hoot and holler every time one of these Nudniks decides to quit, let’s hear from some of these “democrats” what they would do better and exactly HOW they would do it.
That’s called giving people alternatives and most of all Hope, something that is in short supply for many in states that were blue once and will have to work in earnest to be blue again.
Every minute of the day "democrats’ are silent on alternatives and Policy is another win for President Frankenputz and his minions.

At the time he dropped out, Trott had raised about $350K, according to opensecrets. The leading GOPer now that he’s not running has raised over $900K so far while the leading Dem candidate has raised just over $500K. It’s still early, but there seems to be plenty of GOP money here.

He burned through over a million in his first run. The leading republican was also originally running for another office (I think State Senate?), and just transferred her money from that campaign to this one.

Of course, all his faux indignation isn’t enough to make him stay and actually make a stand AGAINST Drumpf. He could make public denunciations every time the Orange Fecal Stain proposes horrible legislation. He could switch parties. He could try to influence his fellow GOP members to resist Drumpf. Nope. Pulls a cowardly move and quits.
They will be this year. There are at least 3 flip candidates in Michigan this year, Trott’s seat in the MI-11, Tim Walberg’s MI-7 and Mike Bishop’s MI-8, (he’s rumored to be retiring). MI-11 is white hot and you can bet that there will be tons of money coming from out of state for whoever get the Democratic nomination there.

Chaffetz has already been frightened out of office in Utah since he quit in June. Word is the crowds at his town halls in February screaming at him over healthcare and his failure to investigate Whiny unnerved him. He tried putting up a brave front, bragging about his margins of victory in the Utah third, but nobody gave two shits. Two months later he announces when he finished his term, he’s done. Two months after THAT, he quits completely and becomes a Fox Not the News commentator. Former Speaker of the House, John Boehner, called him a total phony and an asshole.

The average number of congressional retirements per year from both parties is 40. I’m not going to start paying much attention till the Republicans hit that number ALL BY THEMSELVES and right now they are at 28.
