Partly, it betrays their belief that only people just like them are Real Americans and that everyone else should be treated, at best, as a second-class subject given pro-forma rights, but never their substance if in any way deemed detrimental to the interests of the Real Americans.
But even when the polls show a majority of Republicans oppose what they’re doing, they claim to effectuating The Wishes of the American People. It’s the crudest, most cynically unsubtle kind of propaganda, really, and yet our nation’s media institutions are incapable of penetrating even that most rudimentary kind of pretext.

Huh…so it took them 5 days to realize that Boehner retiring meant that they plans for a shutdown this week were out the window.
According to his letter, he finally figured it out in a meeting today when the Leadership wasn’t discussing shutting down the government.
This is the guy who, while staring at the fuel gauge sitting on empty, can’t figure out why the car won’t start.

The RWNs see PP as a major source of support for Democratic candidates, that’s at the bottom of any protest they might register. But for a brief moment based on the headline I felt hopeful I was going to read a strong, full throated defense of PP, but no.
