Discussion: GOP Platform Committee Wants Feds To Turn Fed Lands Over To States ASAP

Stop trying to confuse the issue with, you know, facts.

It would take so long that I rather think the monkeys would have reached a level of intelligence by that point, which would allow them to take a good look at what they had done, and throw it away in disgust. I have more faith in monkeys than I do in the GOP.

If the GOP doesn’t pander to the assholes, then to whom will they pander?

Exactly.

They seem to think that our national lands belong to the President or something. Repuglicans are so damn weird. They seem to have forgotten everything about being Americans.

So, Republicans want to elect Republicans to replace the Republican Congress so Republicans can pass this?

This really is a joke.

What so the states can sell off our nations parks to the rich to use as their own private backyards. I think not and any politician that is pushing for that should be voted out of office and should be banned from holding public office again.

In the course of doing genealogical research, I found that at least one of my ancestors bought his farmland in NE Illinois from the federal government in 1840. This was well after Illinois was admitted as a state. This was the predominant way that people came to own land in Northern Illinois following the expulsion of Native American Tribes. Turns out that the same thing happened in Ohio starting during the Jefferson Administration. The practice was ramped up following the War of 1812.

Other than the original 13 states, Citizens bought land directly from the Federal Government, not through their State. I have yet to hear of a single state that acquired title to their unsettled land from the Feds and then sold it off.

This idea that the Founding Fathers never intended for the Federal Government to own land is an outright falsehood. You have no right to sell land if you don’t own it, and the Founding Fathers themselves sold land through the Federal Government. They didn’t give away land to the States and I don’t see whey we should do it.

Give them what they want, along with a bill for all of the improvements, the administration costs for however many years the feds have managed the lands, and in the case of the Bundys… demand that they come up to date on their arrears. I figure that this will pretty much bankrupt the economies of such great states as Alabama, Mississippi, Utah and the rest of the ingrates. Also, if they want military protection, charge them.

Never was yours. Retaining ownership of Western lands is the smartest thing the Federal government ever did.

What would Utah do with the refuge? They’ve got miles and miles of open land and that is part of the beauty of Utah.

Would they build more Mormon temples? They only have one like every ten or twenty square blocks now.

How about Nevada, what would they do with the vast open desert? Nothing, because it’s sand and it’s dry. They just want something to fuck up.

That’s only fair. If the people of the United States want a park, they should pay for it.

Now wait just one darn minute here. I spent two years riding a bicycle in fucking office attire, wore a damn name tag that allowed people to abuse me by name as they shut doors on my toes, followed dozens of dopey rules like “comb your hair and part it on the side” (good luck, my African American brothers) and suffered for a good portion of 17,520 hours listening to my dipshit conjoined Elder talk endlessly of his “perfect gift” (the 15-yr old sweetheart he left back home – “she’ll be 17 when I finish mission and her folks are totally on board”) and his plans for their years of life together.

I did all that so I could reach new status in the only religion that can rightfully claim that their holy text is American history, and some asshole (I’m Latter Day Swearer, so fuck off) GOP committee want to take that honor away from me and hand it over by proclamation to any old-timey Christian that ever drove past a church? You are about to see the Hulk bust out of a white shirt and black dress pants.

well it wouldn’t be surprising if some of those GOP senators and representatives came to this country as either religious fanatics or indentured servants.
