Nice. So GOP members want to Steal American-owned (i.e. “Fed”) Land from American Owners and turn it over to State-owners.
I thought that the North won the Civil War? Must have missed something in the history books…

These nuts have never done good for anyone.
Oh, baloney. They did lots of good for KKK members back a century ago.
I don’t understand the use of the word return. In 99% of these cases the states never owned the land in the first place.
after dozens of anti-government protestors took over the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon
I wouldn’t call them protestors, I would call them criminals, as they have been charged with multiple counts including illegal weapons possession, destruction of property, tresspassing and theft to name a few. They weren’t protetsing, they were illegally occupying by force, which in my mind makes them terrorists. Nice to see the GOP rallying around admitted anti-government criminals and terrorists.
Might be more appropriate if the sponsor was Gatorade
Ah, you miss the most potent point: they were w-h-i-t-e. Had they been Black, the police would have killed them for not wearing their seat belts, let alone outrageous crimes like open-carrying assault rifles.
I’m glad this is in there. As your elected representative, the fact that I have lots of developer friends is just a coincidence in the long fight from federal tyranny.
I suspect it’s because our chosen method of Federal representation (every state gets 2 Senate votes) gives far too much power to the western states and the western states have given far more power to their rural (over urban) areas. The GOP is sucking up to UT, NV, ID, WY, and AZ with this plank. Most of CO is actively and aggressively resisting this land grab crap. This is why it’s possible for just a portion of the 15,000 people (the exception is the disenfranchised Navajos) who live in San Juan County UT to have such an outsized influence on the Federal land discussion .
Which would not work anyway. They would just run up the credit card again.
So Republicans want land bought and paid for by the people of the United States i.e. the Louisiana, Gadsden, Alaska Purchases among others to be given to the states? Most states did not even exist when U.S. citizens gave up their gold for these lands.
Lets ask a rhetorical question, what do Republicans propose to give me a natural born U.S. citizen for the property that belongs to me? Answer: nothing. I have a better idea. Why don’t you pay your taxes and all that is owed to me for leasing the water or mineral rights to my property. Otherwise, we the people of the U.S.A will force you off our land.
This is what you get with Dominionist home schooling. No fucking clue about US history. Those lands were obtained by the federal government through purchase, treaty or conquest. It was never state lands. Ever. We the People own it in trust for the future. You the person do not get to abrogate our ownership.
This part and parcel of the drive to privatize public duties and resources. No and Hell no.
You mean the party of the LawnOrder candidate? Surely they wouldn’t support such folk!
Your friendly neighborhood GOP.
Taking bat-shit crazy to unfathomable levels, even for the GOP.
Well, yes, that’s part of it, but mostly it’s the fossil fuel industry and the extraction industries (mining, timber) who want access and believe they can get it through state governments, because it takes a lot less money to buy a governor or a state legislator than a Senator or Representative.
Good thing it’s just their party platform - where they get to express their most insanely evil hopes and wishes. None of their planks make it past the 4 corners of the document. Unless it’s one of the ones aimed at women; for some reason those get passed into laws on the state level.
You most certainly did not.
We got lazy. That’s it. Not you or me personally, but COLLECTIVELY.
I remember an OCCUPY march I was in on a Saturday. The yelling from the nearby football game almost drowned us out
We have to be more determined to vote than those on the Right. First of all, the those on the Right are older and live for politics. Second, the 0.001% has most of the nation’s resources and will use the standard GOP playbook. Third, if I were young, I would naturally not care about any of this “politics” stuff, because thinking about it is basically unnatural for youngsters. Even in my 1960s activist youth the last thing I did was talk about politics any more than necessary.
So we have to be “un-natural”…which DOES happen to certain young people in certain times in our history (like 1941-1945). It’s not fair, but it wasn’t fair for Les Moonves of CBC News (and people like him) to give Trump $2 billion of free advertising last winter.
Eh, that’s why I never gave a shit that Bernie wanted this or that in the Democratic platform as a matter of principle in exchange for his support…Unless it was something that was so totally divorced from reality, it really isn’t that big a deal. So far, everything that’s been proposed by Sanders people on the platform committee for the most part hasn’t seemed all that outrageous. I just wish he gave his support more willingly and a lot earlier, without preconditions, and without using the platform as an excuse, because it really is small potatoes in general. Sanders actual leverage went out the window when he lost to Hillary when it came to the actual math.
On the other hand, Republicans put all kinds of nonsense in their party platform in the form of unattainable ideas or sometimes very narrow objectives that only cater to a small group of their base (like rich donors usually) as opposed to those consisting of wider support from the general public. They’ve acquired most of their malignant ideas from wading into the fever swamps of rightwing media, in order to come up with some of the worst ideas imaginable.
include language calling on Congress to return federal lands to the states immediately.
Is that the actual language? Because if they want the feds to return the land, it will be to the natives we took it from. If they want it to go to the states, it should say “gift it to the states”. There were no states when feds got possession of the land.
Or they can give lots of it back to France. I’m sure they’d be cool with that.
Yes, I agree.
For the most part nobody pays any attention once the convention is over, if at any time, to either party’s platform.
