Discussion: GOP Dares Call Gorsuch Filibuster Unprecedented—While Ignoring Their Blockade Of Garland

The Republicans are throwing all caution to the wind to secure a radical conservative SCOTUS justice. No rude, undemocratic, filthy, lying underhanded trick is too outrageous for these fuckers.

Indeed, the trump voters are expecting no less. The ones I know voted for trump for one reason, and one reason only - overturn Roe v Wade. Whatever it takes, even gritting their teeth every day as Donnie makes a fool of himself, they can tolerate, as long as he appoints a justice who will do their bidding.

If not, it should.

Democrats merely need a candidate for President in 2020, beginning the Presidential Campaign. Once that has begun, Republicans by their standard cannot fill the Supreme Court opening.

If a lame duck can’t pick a Supreme Court justice, then a rabid ferret shouldn’t either.

I think McConnell’s kind of devious evil is nothing new. We’ve seen historical figures just as rancid - hell, I’d say Cheney is just as bad and his destruction of democracy and human decency just as extensive.

As Americans we hope that the decent among us and the strength of our Constitution pulls us through. One of these times, though, there will be a perfect storm of malevolence that destroys all we have built.

has anyone bothered to ask the eight supremes how they view this stolen seat?

Polls are also showing that the man remains surprisingly popular among Republicans. They’re actually happy with him:

I was just thinking that if they get Gorsuch through, that’ll give him something to crow about- and push up his numbers.

And to think that a few months ago, I didn’t even know the word!

What is simple is that you are attempting to justify Republicans choosing to do their partisan job over their Constitutional one. That was the new rule created by the GOP Senate that was afraid that Obama was going to change the ideological balance of the court, but there is no rule, law, policy or precedent for that.

CORRECTION: Republican politicians have not forgotten a thing. They are merely adept at lying after doing it for so many decades. But their electorate is fairly ignorant with the memory of a cloud of gnats. The GOP merely speaks to their base in a Goebbels-like fashion: “Lie loudly and often. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.”

Butter wouldn’t melt in McConnells mouth.

The GOP will argue that Garland’s case is different because he got no meetings or hearings. It’s a blatant lie, but the GOP has proven to be expert at it, and given a media that doesn’t really question them, it’s easy to get away with this type of lying.

George W. Bush should refrain from naming a Supreme Court nominee in an election year unless that nominee was a moderate.

TPM: What Biden said was that the sitting president could name a nominee but that they should wait until after election day.

Your phrasing plays right into the GOP lies that Biden took the same position they did last year. He did not. Every time the GOP trots out this latest lie, it must be explicitly and utterly refuted whenever it is reported on.

Love the lede. That is some first-class snark.

Agreed. Establish Dump’s legitimacy before allowing him to name anyone to SCOTUS.

What if one declared right now? Even as a placeholder :}

You know what also was pretty simple? The AHCA. Hardly any paper needed to write it!
