Discussion: GOP Dares Call Gorsuch Filibuster Unprecedented—While Ignoring Their Blockade Of Garland

No President who may be in his last year of office can nominate a justice. Pretty simple.
Great article.
I propose giving the author the first annual Tierney Sneed award for excellence in journalism.
Oh… it’s her;)

And the depressing thing is that the Republicans got away with their Garland strategy.

I’m pretty sure the rule is that if you lose the popular vote by more than 2 million votes, you can never nominate a Supreme Court Justice.

And the depressing thing is that the Republicans seem to get away with everything.

Garland got the shaft in the worst way possible. If he went through the process and got filabustered it would have been bad, but the fact that nobody gave him the time of day was the worst. A very qualified moderate candidate.

In the past, usually nominees get more than 60 votes, so the filibuster thing rarely mattered. The GOP really just wants to get an insane conservative on there. Gorsuch has experience as a judge but many of his decisions are outside of the mainstream and should be concerning to anybody that cares about Constitutional law.

It would be an example of the GOP trying to remake the system from within using the judiciary. What they get up in arms about when the Dems appoint anyone anywhere.

Stolen seat. After his mom’s experience at EPA why on earth would Gorsuch want it? He’s looking at four decades of life under a cloud.

My pipe dream is that when the Dems retake the House, they impeach the bought-and-paid-for corrupt Clarence Thomas. When you look at the $100’s of thousands his wife is getting from outside interests, you know the payers are getting something in return.

Strictly speaking, they are right. A filibuster is a particular maneuver in the Senate. Refusing to bring up a nominee for consideration is reprehensible, but it is not a filibuster.

Words matter, as Trump and his cronies teach us every day.

And this is inside baseball.

Since Cheeto Mussolini may well be in his last year as president, pending the outcome of current and future investigations, it would make sense to adhere to the precedent and not confirm his nominee.

A mass amnesia…

They know exactly what they did. They just know their voters are too stupid to remember, or care, or both.

Typical Republican hypocrisy and lies. Wake me when there is some real news. At the same time, I hope the Democratic leadership in the Senate follows through on their promise to filibuster this nomination. We must continue to fight Republican obstruction and attempts to carry out a slow-motion coup d’etat. Besides, I love to drink their salty tears.

In other news, the daily Gallup numbers show a 35/59 unfavorable vs. favorable split–he’s 24 points in the hole.

And I would really like to know why ‘someone’ thinks that Gorsuch is so valuable it’s worth spending 17 Million dollars to stiff Garland to get to Gorsuch. Think about that…17 MILLION dollars to buy yourself a Supreme Court justice.

As always…follow the money. In this case, back to the rich conservative crackpots that want to destroy America. Their lack of transparency makes him toxic to any thinking person.

Go ahead Mitch, nuke the filibuster. That really has become an empty threat you bring out just to get your way - we all know you’re gonna do it anyway, so let’s just get that out of the way.

Just remember that what goes around comes around.

GOP liars lie and lie and lie.

The GOP refused to consider the nomination of Garland and instead are trying to ram a right-wing monster down our throats.

This is a GOP rape of our Constitution.

Every single elected Republican–and most of the rest of them–can all die and go to Hell. That’s what I think of you folks. After the way you treated President Obama for eight years and are now colluding with a treasonous bully, you’ve made it clear where your hearts are – not with America. Die, sons of bitches!
