For heavens sake - no race should be called until ALL ballots are counted period. This is starting to border on the insane.
The networks and cable really blew their election night coverage â itâs a big part of the false narrative from the Republicans that they are being robbed of races they won. It was appalling to see anchors breathlessly reporting race updates with 1% of the votes in. And way too many races called or dismissed as over with the eventual victor trailing.

There should be no release of any election results before theyâre officially certified, and no election should be certified before every single vote is counted. Even if itâs 90-10 with 99.998% reporting. The government owes we the people at least that much.
Republicans seem to rely on the absolute ignorance of the voters as to how elections actually work.
THIS is one reason we need to start teaching CIVICS in grade school up to High School again. I was taught how elections, laws, and government work at an early age in school. Now, they donât teach it at all (but they DO have cool new Football Stadium for the local HS team!)
An informed, educated electorate is required for the functioning of a Democracy. Thanks to the Oligarchs and Bible-Thumpers we no longer have that, and it shows in the election of a total moron like Trump.

Well, when one candidate has a 5,000 vote lead and there are only 3,000 votes left to count, that would seem to be a pretty safe call. What youâre saying is that if a team wins the first four games of a best of seven series, they should still play the remaining three games to see who wins.
@fgs- Actually, as annoying as having the lazy media declare winners before they have won is, I would feel more disquiet by having to wait days for the results to be known at all. Better to have some premature Media calls found wrong than to sit in ignorance while the GOP rat fuckery goes on in places like Georgia and Florida.
BTW- how do you think that Trump and Steve King and the two famous California Talk Radio Bigots feel about a woman with the quintessentially Mexican name Xochitl Torres winning a Congressional seat?
ASFAIK Doña Ana County still uses paper ballots that can be audited. Recently deceased New Mexican voters have been known to cast absentee ballots from the great beyond, but again these are paper ballots that can be verified.
My hope is the Democrats will use Republican whining to the votersâ advantage by implementing easy secure elections.
The problem is exit polls, which even if theyâre accurate, only capture in person, same day voting. They then try to project that the absentee/mail ballots will break the same, when, clearly, they donât. Exit polling may work pretty well in a state like New York, where absentee voting is very limited (you need one of a small number of valid excuses) but are near worthless in California and many other Western states.
Oh, those litigation-happy Republicans! Always running to the courts, looking for activist judges to do their bidding!

We already HAVE changed the way we vote: we now early or mail-in vote.
I thought these were tabulated as they come in so we would not run into this (because not really THAT many arrive after the Tuesday vote night) but NOW we find out not
