It would be a lot like the American Revolution in reverse, when you put it that way. But yeah, it would be a shocking thing, creating a class of citizen who can commit any federal crime with impunity. It would be insane.
I’m getting way ahead of myself(I devoutly hope)…but what would happen if the Supremes went against him, and/or he’s defeated in an election? Part of me thinks he would refuse to comply or leave and/or maybe summon his cultists to take to the streets. Don’t you love the smell of hyperbole in the morning?
To accept a pardon, you have to admit guilt, does Rudy and Donnie know that? If he admits guilt, he can then be impeached.
So I guess we can reverse Bill Clinton’s impeachment and send Ken Starr to federal prison on charges of malicious prosecution?
And if the president cannot be investigated for wrongdoing and can pardon him(her)self and is above the law, then why can’t any other Senator, Representative, cabinet member, etc., make the same case for themselves?
Another mouthpiece, another lawyer, another story. It is absolutely amazing how Trump is able to find these people who are willing to look like complete un-American, bottom feeding aholes and jettison their careers in the court of public opinion.
To be impeached, you need a Congress willing to do it. Do we have such a Congress? Do you foresee us having such a Congress?
We might get the House in November, but 2/3 of the Senate? I don’t see that happening. And I don’t see the Repug senators finding religion all of a sudden, Corker’s bleating about tariffs notwithstanding.
Shame on Trump’s lawyers for sounding like, well, Trump. They’ve basically condemned the Constitution (which they were sworn to uphold) and us to tyranny.
I never thought I’d live through a time like this (although Americans have never gone through something like THIS) but there’s no doubt in my mind, he’ll either go on live TV or YouTube and do a campaign style rally where he does summon his feral trumpers to bring the country down by force.
That’s just how unhinged I think he is. And the sociopaths that follow him see the world exactly as he sees it. Unfortunately, neither of them understand that in a case like that, it would make the standoff at Waco look tame. They genuinely believe that the American military is made up of “patriots” like them. They’ll find out sooner than later what things really are about.
I think we already have that. They are called Bankers and Hedge Fund Managers.(And yes, it is a terrible idea to give them carte blanche.)
That liberal media! Another Sunday with the listings for the talk shows promising 100% Republicans, except for Justin Trudeau. Why does this pattern hold week after week through every change of administration?
Seeing how they have no organization they’d be screwed from the start.
If you define “grief” broadly enough to include the reaction to knowing that the titular head of your political party is about to be charged with a multitude of serious crimes then it is easy to understand the Giuliani-Sekulow Model of presidential power:
It’ll almost certainly get worse before it gets better as far as the eruption of tantrums from the current occupant as his troubles deepen. But I’ve always been among the people who think the physical danger his base presents is vastly ovestimated. For eight years his base was tyrannized, threatened with deweaponization, subjected to savage onslaughts of calm, reasonable demeanor, had affordable health care shoved down their throats, and what did they do? Did they rise up and at least vote the monster out? Not really. Will they feel worse if Trump resigns? Maybe a little. Will they start shooting up Mayberry? I’ll bet you lunch they don’t. Might be a sharp increase in rackety arguments at the convenience stores, and some admonitions not to bring up politics please at family dinners. I think it’ll stay at about that level.
OT – Interesting article on holding tRump legally culpable for his crimes.
Was directed to this article from a DailyKos diary:
Me too. 100%
So assuming this show airs live, it probably means Guliani met with Trump on Thursday or Friday and decided to leak it yesterday. Explains why Guliani changed his plans regarding Camp David, so he could do the Sunday morning talk shows. Only question I have is why leak the letter from January now? Did Mueller send a response? Send a subpoena?
Damn, I miss Rod Serling.
What would he do with 2018?
Diversion. Puts the attention on Rudy and not Trump and gives Trump the opportunity to say: “What, you’re listening to Rudy? He’s a wonderful person, but he’s past his prime. I have many, many lawyers. Too many. Rudy’s not even the most expensive one. He’s working for nothing. Talk to Flood.”
That’s all I got, unless Trump has a better sense of humor than we give him credit for.
“This is the reason you don’t let this President testify,” he added. “Our recollection keeps changing, or we’re not even asked a question and somebody makes an assumption.”
A prosecutor has got to love an answer like this!! Did Rudi Giuliani accept answers like this when he was D.A.?
By this logic, no interview of interrogation could possibly add new information, because none of us every really remembers anything. Or no question gets asked, so everyone makes assertions out of thin air. There is no truth, there is no falsity, there is only airtime – make sure you spell my name correctly!
Or instead, should I focus on the word “this”? We could let any other president testify, but not this one! His recollection keeps changing (which means whatever he makes up at the time is what he believes at that time, nothing more nothing less). And so you don’t let him testify, but other presidents could testify, and these problems would not present themselves.
He would pack it in. Reality has his show trumped by a mile.
