Fine, even if it was not “taking” but “actively seeking” info that was criminal, Trump’s campaign still did that. They just managed to be criminal.
Of course it is illegal to accept campaign assistance from a foreign ENEMY. Spinning this shit does even more harm because it pretends it’s not illegal.
Holy piece of shit Batman.
Yes there is.
You vile traitor.
This conversation is over.
I rise to point out that beyond the legal fine points, it’s obvious to any election professional that when a hostile foreign government steals confidential information and weaponizes it to meddle in a national election, you don’t say “Oh goodie!” and repeatedly encourage them to do it more and praise the effort as it happens, and you then don’t deny that it happened at all, and commit multiple instances of obstruction to prevent the facts coming to light and protect the criminals. You CALL THE FBI the moment you hear such a thing is going on. You announce a bipartisan effort to stop it and future meddling. And you don’t pooh-pooh it as normal, Guiliani, you fucking worm-brained has-been clown. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP.
Oh, and Happy Easter to all celebrants, Chag Sameach to others, and certainly a nice Sunday to everyone. Might be a good day to turn our backs on these freaks and have fellowship with family and friends. Ta for now.
Fucking QUISLING ! —
What’s the correct legal formulation of this principle, which applies to Russia, which is not a declared enemy?
I guess it remains conspiracy to defraud the United States. But we may need new laws to reflect the reality that it happens and that we have fellow citizens willing to go along with it.
Rudy has rubles in his pockets too!
Rudy already takes foreign money from several bad actors. Everyone in his circle does too. If we allow “who says it’s illegal?” to become our mantra, this country is gone.
Ghouli was spinning so fast, I got nauseous…
Whatever happened to “ignorance of the law is no excuse”? So I can do pretty much anything that I’d like, as long as I’m ignorant of its being illegal?
Nah, you have to be reliably ignorant (idiotic) like the Trumps.
Not that easy for common people though.
IOKIYR. Seriously.
I can’t watch/listen to Rudy but I’d like to know what Jake had to say in response. But I think I do know, so never mind. We all know how it starts: “With all due respect Mr Mayor…”.
We have no actual statesmen in Congress today. People who walked the walk and were defenders of the truth and the rule of law.
He would consider it illegal if Pres. HRC had done the thing. Giuliani is not a reliable witness here.
“Who says it’s even illegal?” he asked, adding later: “There’s nothing wrong with taking information from Russians.”
Hmm…
In that mode.
Trump and crew are good to go with the Steele Dossier?
As Muller points out, it’s a violation of the law for a political campaign to take anything of value from a non citizen of the United States. In this specific instance, Muller says it was unclear if the information offered was of sufficient value to trigger the laws, but Rudy presumably is talking about information with specific value. Ethics aside, it’s clearly illegal to accept anything, including information, of value from non citizens for a political campaign.
