Discussion: Giuliani Spins Mueller: 'Nothing Wrong With Taking Information From Russians'

So help from a foreign adversary is not bad and should not be illegal but having a private computer server and using private emails should send someone to prison? I don’t think so, asshole.

Let’s give 'em a day off. Courage of one’s convictions takes some warming up. Feeling hopeful though.

He also accused the Mueller team of torture during that same interview. Absolutely unbelievable.

I get back from a little more than a week of being away from the internet to be hit with this utterly crazy loon (and the almost as crazy Kellyanne Conway on This Week Without George Stephanopolis) spinning like a Tazmanian Devil. I have never seen this level of twisting and turning an apple into a watermelon, outside of a magic show. This makes Baghdad Bob look almost reasonable. If, after all this, the orange narcissist gets reelected, even by a quirk of the electoral college, the world really has turned upside down.

I’m going to assume the information Rudy would take is information that he would consider to be valuable to the candidate or the campaign. Based on that wild assumption:

"(a) Prohibition It shall be unlawful for—
(1) a foreign national, directly or indirectly, to make—
(A) a contribution or donation of money or other thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State, or local election;
(B) a contribution or donation to a committee of a political party; or
© an expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication
52 US Code §30121

One thing I like about Rudy - he is always explaining why it is not illegal to violate the law.

Hey remember when Fox News was up in arms about some Canadian women buying Hillary for President t-shirts?

Starting my second pass through the report and hope to have some write-ups this week.

Rudy is taking advantage of the fact that Mueller, imho, dropped the ball on indicting Trump Jr for the Trump Tower meeting and also the Trump campaign entity for an intentional coordinated effort to seek and leverage stolen property. I think the section of the report discussing Trump Jr at the TT Meeting and also the failure to address the campaign entity’s culpability (and Trump by extension) are the biggest weaknesses in this report.

Are there any redactions in this section?

There is everything wrong with accepting help from a foreign nation. What happens when that country calls back for favors because it has the receipts? You get Helsinki, that’s what happens.

As an American, I would never vote for anyone with such lack of patriotism or honor. I almost can’t believe he’s saying the disgusting bits out loud, but it is Guliani.

Really? Nothing wrong with it? Nothing wrong with it??!!

Few to none. Mueller said Trump Jr was a dumb crook. I don’t think the facts bear that out and I believe it was irresponsible for Mueller to have drawn that conclusion.

I was also very surprised to see how much direct evidence Mueller had of Trump’s foreknowledge of Wikileaks and the active effort he himself organized to search for stolen property (emails). I thought he needed Stone’s confession for that, but he didn’t. To not indict based on Trump’s knowledge and intent as an anchor and director of activities seems like a glaring error to me.

Btw, Roger Stone is f***ed. He has zero leverage with prosecutors b/c Mueller did know more from other sources.

Giuliani was already a famous politician, mayor of the nation’s largest city, at the time Al Gore’s campaign promptly and without hesitation turned over to the FBI a leaked tape sent to them of the presidential debate practice sessions of the Bush campaign. It is these sorts of tests that reveal to the world whether a person is honorable and worthy of public trust or whether said person is garbage, willing to spin the same unethical practices they would condemn if committed by others.

While I accept Mueller’s decisions as I believe he’s honorable, I believe he could have easily indicted Trump Jr. After all, the campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was at that same meeting. Does anyone believe that International Man of Ignominy didn’t know the rules? And why is ignorance of the law a get out of jail free card in this scenario, but never for ordinary Americans? I would have much preferred Mueller indict Junior and let a judge and jury decide the appropriateness of the conduct.

A big part of the problem here, as I see it, is that the mainstream press simply cannot come out and call the Trump administration’s spinning what it clearly is to everyone else (who isn’t under Trump’s sway). It is clear that they are just lying to a degree that we have never really seen before, not just calling black white but actually calling the same thing to be black in one instance and white in another, as it suits their purposes. In a way, I am sympathetic. I can see that to come out and call it what it is is to abdicate their carefully cultivated illusion of objectivity. Here, objectivity still convicts Trump of lies, attempting to coordinate with the Russians (and presumably willing to sell out our foreign policy in exchange), and at least doing what he could to try to obstruct justice. (But they are still defining objective as seeing both sides, even if one side is entirely crazy.) I also sympathize that trying to ask substantive questions of Giuliani (and Kellyanne) directly to their faces is like trying to get a drink of water from a fire hose.

Not one bit of the “information” on Hillary indicated anything she ever did wrong. So you foolishly invited the Russians in and got NOTHING in return. Except help in the election.
