Truly a class act. If only we had nine of her caliber on the Supreme Court.

I love this woman. ‘I shouldn’t have done it. We don’t have to parse every letter. I’m done with this topic.’ Oh yeah…the best!

Well…we can’t. Because, you know, REPUBLICANS.

Well put, RBG. But that’s the advantage of having a lifetime appointment. Helen Thomas didn’t have the same option.

Video review confirms her original call was correct.

I remember that episode well.

A repost from yesterday:

" RBG Is Hardly the First Supreme Court Justice to Mess With Presidential Politics

SCOTUS justices have been taking sides in U.S. politics since the ink was still wet on the Constitution.

Better to jump out of the frying pan than end up in the fire. She regrets calling Donald the Dickhead Trump dangerous, divisive, disillusioned and dumb and that’s that.

The operative word is “regrets” and also “ill-advised” and now, “incautious”. If it were me, I would have said uncautious…But then spellcheck would have told me “nope…redline, stupid”. Shows you what I know.

She’s done with it, I’m done with it. And thankfully, she never did make herself apologize for her statement because truthfully…she was being truthful.

Thank you Justice Ruth “Kiki” Bader Ginsburg…(her childhood nickname).

She said what she meant. Should she have done it given her role as a Justice? Probably not. I’d like to see the Donald ever say he did something wrong, regrets anything he has ever done. The man has no humility.

Wait a second. So many TPM commenters were accusing the NY Times of “Clinton Derangement Syndrome” for saying the same thing Justice Ginsburg said, except a day earlier. What gives?

If RGB agrees with the Times, doesn’t that mean she too suffers from “Clinton Derangement Syndrome”?

Or does it mean we all ought to give shoot-the-messenger firing squads against the most liberal major newspaper in the country a rest?

“It was incautious but he’s just such a screaming assmunch,” Ginsburg told NPR’s Nina Totenberg.

I remember very well the Day O’Connor remarks. I think she might have also said or implied that she’d finally consider retiring once a repub was elected.

There is also the infamous duck hunting incident with Scalia and his bud Cheney, and Scalia immediately went on the defensive dismissing all the criticism of this trip which was ahead of a pending SCOTUS ruling regarding Cheney. He had no interest in protecting the court’s integrity unlike what Ginsburg seems to have done here. From NYT

Justice Scalia, having lowered the bar for judicial ethics by refusing to acknowledge the reasonableness of questions about his impartiality, has guaranteed that the Supreme Court will end up embarrassed, no matter which way it rules.

@arc_of_the_universe You get 117 “likes” from me, one for each of the Pulitzers the NYT has been awarded.

She apologized for making a mistake; when is the last time you have hears any Republican apologize for ANYTHING??? Bless you, Justice Ginsburg; you are a national treasure.

Her criticisms of Trump were “incautious,” but spot-on.

Unfortunately, to those susceptible to the kind of 5th grade “dominance politics” that Josh M and others have identified as one of the keys to Trump’s success (so far), this is a clear win for Donald. Because to these folks, the the accuracy or inaccuracy of her criticisms makes exactly zero difference. The way they see it, all that really matters is that RBG criticized Trump, Trump criticized RBG, and then RBG “backed down.” Which means Trump “won.” So this exchange clearly helps him a lot with his hard-core 5th-grader-mentality base. Of course that’s not really where he needs the help. How it plays to the broader electorate, I don’t know…

Wait a minute. RBG is not some virgin on her first date. She knew it was “incautious” when she said it.

She showed her true patriotic colors when she folded and backtracked. She, like many others, blinked when attacked by Donald “the draft dodging coward and asshole loser” Trump. It just shows she no longer has any iron in her spine.

Exactly, and with RBG’s walk-back coupled with the NYT’s “Trump’s right” bit, Donald’s grandiosity should be in ultra zoom mode…

True strength is not shown by unwillingness to bend. Unwillingness to bend, to ever apologize, is Trump’s inadequacy.

I’m pretty sure that RGB knew exactly the type of firestorm she would create when she said what she did. She let it sit and stew out there and then withdrew by saying she “regrets” making the statements that are now very clearly out there in crystal clear black and white text.

As I keep saying, Trump has long ago left the realm of politics and is operating in the realm of immoral and intentionally hurtful actions. Most glaringly his continual association and wink wink nudge nudge affiliation with white supremacist groups.

At this point he has left the grey line or shadow area and is very very clearly, black and white, a bad man… It is necessary for all of us to speak up and against Trump and his hateful rheteric.

RGB has done that.
