I think he (Trump) thinks he is backed into a corner by his ToughTalk and like with the Govt Shutdown, once he decided to go for it (at the urging of Fox, of course) no one could talk him out of it. Because in his mind of Reality TV fans - he HAS to look Tough and keep up his “I say what I mean” image (stop laughing - it’s ridiculous with his lies - but he lies to himself as well.)

But that folks have gotten through to him that this could be really, really bad.
Hence the new yesterday that the WH was sending a team to the Hill to try to get a ‘legislative fix’. That means a face-saving “fix” so he can move away from this precipice.
Now allies like Newt (ugh) are taking to Fox (knowing Trump is watching) to try to knock some sense into him (and to try to float some verbal hedges to help Trump save face.)
