Discussion: Georgia Teacher Asks Muslim Student If She Has A Bomb In Her Backpack

WHAT THE FUCK - a 13 year old minor who is verbally assaulted is identified, but the teacher remains anonymous? This person needs to be outed and put on the public pillory as soon as and for as long as possible.

With 3.1 million public school teachers in the US, why is it headline news if one of them says something really dumb?

There are only five eighth-grade science teachers at Shiloh Middle, all women. Take your pick.

Might be a requirement.

It’s a good thing I’m not a Muslim. With my sarcastic attitude I’d probably reply, “Yes. Yes, I have a bomb in my backpack and I’ve just been waiting until 7th period to actually detonate it. Idiot.”

And they would then claim that they had reason to search me because I said “yes” and because I “had a bad attitude.” Someday they might even start using the term “Uppity Arabs.” I can see it now…

This is a school. Can’t our intrepid journalists find out the name of the teacher? The students will know the name, surely. Journalism 100, anyone???

OK, it was a joke. The teacher should be treated the same way the student would have been treated for joking about a bomb in her backpack – at a minimum, tazed, dragged out of the school in chains, and suspended for six months, without pay.

She didn’t just “say something dumb.” She singled-out an identifiable minority and suggested that she might be dangerous. How, pray tell, is this any different than the kind of shit Trump uses on the stump?

Sadly, teachers are human too and some are assholes.

“She said she was joking. Then I said to her, ‘Do you know what’s going
on in America? You’re not supposed to joke like this,’” Aden told the
television station, referring to the teacher’s explanation of the
incident.
…
If the teacher was joking he/she was behaving VERY inappropriately and should be called “on the carpet” by the principal of that school.

When I was an undergrad, some White kids thought it was a joke too to shout NIGGER as they drove by. One night, a group did that and a friend used a brick on the car’s windowshield. That was the night these guys found out their joke wasn’t funny.

This teacher should understand you don’t joke like that- especially in a zero-tolerance environment, where we suspend kids for damn-near everything.

For the teacher? That would be appropriate. I hope you aren’t blaming this student for having a backpack at school. I wasn’t there but I bet ya the teacher wasn’t joking or joking in a friendly kind of way.

That zero tolerance stuff doesn’t generally apply to teachers. They get to hassle students about clocks they bring to school. Or non-existent bombs in their backpacks because they’re black and from Somalia or some other country and Muslim. Real funny … but not the “ha ha” kind.

I think that a lot of this anti-Muslim hysteria against innocent people is being ginned up by politicians and Trump in particular. He wants power and does not give a good goddamn about who gets trampled, abused, or killed in the process.

Its usually pronounced more like “Snail ville”

I think Trump is a good deal responsible for behavior like this. He has egged it on and enabled it by his comments. Because he has the dim bulbs now feel they are approved in this sort of bullshit. Nobody should have to put up with this. This is the kind of crap that CAUSES people to get angry and go down the slippery slope of radicalization. People of any race/religion do not like to be abused.

Amazing what the inner tubes can reveal.

Snellville’s diversity is likely historic rather than a reflection of increasing trends. Most smaller Georgia towns have long had substantial black populations. The fact that Snellville’s population is only 7.4 percent Hispanic- vs., say nearby Norcross’s 39.4 percent Hispanic (a trend that began in the late '90s) makes me think perhaps blacks aren’t moving there in substantial numbers. I don’t know why they would, either; it’s truly a hole.

Student: Do have a set of white robes hanging in your closet at home? Maybe a Donald Trump blow-up doll?
Teacher: you are suspended.

Bullies always think it s funny when they humiliate someone else.

Actually, given the current mass hysteria over Muslim people being security threats, this is a big deal. Would you easily dismiss a racial/ethnic comment made publicly by a teacher against one of your kids?
