Discussion: Georgia Guv. Who 'Presumes' Activists Are Illegal Immigrants When Confronted (AUDIO)

Discussion for article #226936

What a bunch of horseshit. Apparently a successful attempt to get news coverage for fake outrage. You don’t why the candidate thought you were undocumented? Maybe because that’s in the name of the damn group! Not even that, the candidate didn’t even claim the activist was undocumented, rather he stated his hypothesis. But apparently the student (or is that being presumptuous?) generated a sufficient volume of Fake Outrage that the activist got into the paper. A job well done.

The insult seems to be his assumption that being undocumented is an insult.

I am faking outrage. Was it good for you?

What part of “I presume you probably fit the category-” don’t you understand?
Take off your political blinders and learn to read.
I love the way Gov. Deal slavishly sticks to the GOP talking points and never, ever, answered any of the questions directly, moronically repeating, verbatim, the same line over and over: “It is a fundamental problem that can only be solved at the congressional level…”
Why would he not say FEDERAL LEVEL since that is what he is saying? Because to the low-brow, knuckle-draggers in his constituents any mention of the word “FEDERAL” triggers Pavlovian drooling and barking (unless he is talking about ammunition.)

Just a hypothesis but “I presume you probably fit the category-”

At least the Gov. apologized.

He could’ve said illegal which would be considered an insult.

Um, the name of the group that was attending the meeting is the “Undocumented Student Alliance.” So, when the Governor assumed that the activist, a member of said group, was undocumented, I’d call that a reasonable assumption.

No, I do not agree with Deal about much of anything. But this is, indeed, a bum rap.

I was responding to jakerome’s statement that “the candidate didn’t even claim the activist was undocumented”.

You clearly disagree, as I did.

Now, as to what is objectionable about that assumption, it is not that he made the assumption, but that he felt the need to voice his assumption twice, and that he then apologized for the “insult”.

It’s too early in the day for nuance. Get back to me when I’ve had a couple of pre-dinner single malts. I do better then.

So you go along with him in assuming that no one but an undocumented alien could possibly care about undocumented aliens?

…crApology with a touch of sincerity .

You’re reaching. The organization is, by its own eponymous definition, an alliance of undocumented students. It’s not the “Alliance to Support Undocumented Students.”

I would say it’s safe to assume that the members of the “Steelworkers Alliance” are steelworkers. That doesn’t mean that no one else cares about how, and under what conditions, steel is manufactured.

Oh, gosh. I couldn’t get through the day without nuance, so I start early. Anytime someone points out that I’m being an idiot, I grab onto nuance like a right-winger grabs onto the “some of my best friends are ____” lifeline.

You’re an idiot. No assumption made.
