Trump will start calling GOP doubters silly names and then Limbaugh and Hannity will denounce them on radio, and thatās the end of the rebellion. Collins, Sasse and others will come with some bullshit reason why they supported the emergency when they really meant to oppose it.
Sorry, but expecting GOP Senatorās to put country before Russia is a quixotic task.
No guts, no moralsā¦
Trump to Republican senator - āI just talked to Putin, heās got a list of all the websites youāve been visiting on the internet on your home.computer. Sad.ā
Thereās a ton of uncertainty around how this plays out.
If Ms Joseph has made this the first sentence there would have been no need for the following dozen-plus paragraphs. Itās all speculation, but itās probably safe to assume the Rs wonāt defy trumpp.
Even if enough Repubs show the spine to vote on the bill, itās highly unlikely that it would survive a (threatened) veto. However, I would be more than satisfied if the U.S. Congress goes on record as opposing this clearly unconstitutional maneuver. Half a loaf, folksā¦
Agree with the general slant of all the comments so far.
Just thinking that this vote is potentially a couple weeks away (mid-March), and there may very possibly be some significant Mueller action in the meantime (report, etc.).
And who knows how that will change (either way) the calculations these Senators are making.
Agreed.
Senators have their ears to the ground at all times. Thereāll be a lot ifs, ands and maybes, and an unknown amount of influence by Muellerās report.
Are you kidding? These cowardly fks will back Trump and then run to the microphones to scream about how the DEMOCRATS are against border security while trying to dodge questions about an āemergencyāā¦when that doesnāt work theyāll insist if OBAMA did it and of course, he did that everyone was for it and itās only because we hate Trump thatā¦and on and on and onā¦never acknowledging what everyone knows. Itās a giant waste of money to assuage Donnieās giant ego.
I canāt wait for the Dems to take over the Senate too. This might just seal the deal. Senators have to run state-wide and even in some red states bordering on purple in some areas. This will have many of those Republicans and Independents being fed up with tRumpās incompetence and increasing awareness of his criminality come 2020. We might just have a real shot at this after this vote. This is not good look or good policy for the Republican party to go along with this sham vanity project of a wall. Too bad they donāt seem to realize it yet. It divides them for now, but theyāll probably still go along with the kind of authoritarianism that tRump demands for his fantasy wall.
Kind of related: I find Cornynās tweets lately interesting because it seems like he knows the GOP isnāt the sho-in in Texas that it was 10 years ago. And the stupid tweet quoting Mussolini was just icing on the cake.
OT
What if I told you that the next few days are going to be ineluctably stupid?
Dale has the full transcript of the Trumpecdote.
Surprised he didnāt call him a Moonie now that China has landed on the dark side of the moon. Or maybe Moonman, like Rocketman for Kim Jong-Un.
It is always a toss up. Is it worse having him being his horrible self in the country or traveling outside of the country?
All media including BBC, seems obsessed with Trump bestowing nicknames to others. Why? My take is rather simple, but psychologically adept to this nonsense - Weāll all be better empowered when these ānicknamesā arenāt acknowledged and ignored.
ā¦Stop giving this vile, narcissistic president the power to control the narrative! His techniqueās been tested over the ages by tin-hatted dictators - They arenāt any smarter, all theyāve got is the charisma to charm their Tribal-Deplorable masses.
Heās like a preteen boy doing an imitation of an insult comedian.
Yep.
That was really stupid too, but then Cornyn isnāt really known for his IQ. But he knows enough to be worried.
Don Rickles before he was told to cut out the shit.
Thank you for this!
I was a bit confused by the blog post about how the Senate successfully blocking the emergency declaration would be all but impossible.
I figured it came down to the bill getting 51 votes, being vetoed, then not having enough votes to override. I hadnāt realized there would be so much room for Mcconnellian parliamentary bullshit to cover for Trump.
One day weāll all look back when our republic has disintegrated into dysfunction beyond repair and realize that McConnell was most responsible, starting in February 2016.
