To be fair, a pat on a horse’s ass for him is a pat on the head.
Well, he IS a horse’s ass.
This x1000. Marcia Fudge has put herself in a good position to eventually become the next Madame Speaker. Seth, please pay attention — this is how you begin accumulating real power. Kisses, Dem women who are no longer Having It (cc: Rep. Maxine Waters)
The 16 told the voters they wouldn’t vote for Pelosi, and continue to say that now, but what is their alternative? Are they going to vote for McCarthy as Speaker? Yeah, that would go over well with their constituents, not to mention the rest of the caucus.
I was going to work up a joke about Moulton and a horse’s ass, but nah.
Too easy.
So Moulton used Fudge. Fudge used Moulton to get a sit down with Pelosi. Pelosi knew what was coming and was ready with a juicy offer. Pelosi knew that she could use Fudge to discredit and demoralize the Moulton/Rice brigade, and opened up a second track to rack up endorsements and grass roots support. Fudge took the offer before the kitchen got too hot as she was getting some negative stories and flack and before she got tagged with the Moulton meltdown (what a jackass that dude is!). I also like how Pelosi held her cards on Clyburn so that she could give that assurance to Fudge as to her support and make Fudge look like she won something.
A benefit for Pelosi is that in following 8 years of rule by neanderthals, she can give away stuff that’s pretty easy to do and get credit for it. It’s like taking over a building run by the Trumps and people giving you credit for doing simple things that never got done like showing up to fix the water heater.
‘Need a special subcommittee on climate change? Oh yeah, I created it 10 years ago. I’ll dust it off and give it to my new best friend Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. Marcia, I hear you want to prioritize voting rights. I have just the thing for you. You know the GOP shut down the subcommittee that examined this stuff, so I’ll reopen the subcommittee and you can chair it. But you know what? If you want this stuff to last, you gotta vote for me and dump the #fivewhiteguys caucus.’
Having said all of this, the fight is not over. Moulton never actually cared about a challenger to Pelosi. His goal is to deny her 218 votes on the floor of the House and throw everything into chaos. He still has that objective and he has 16 signatures on that piece of paper. Pelosi still has to work the 16, some of whom (like Linda Sanchez) have odd grievances that may not be easily placated as Nancy has given some nice stuff away already to woo key constituencies.
If TJ Cox manages to win CA-21, then that might mathematically eliminate the refusnik caucus. Still have work to do.
LOL Exactly my point.
I love that this is a possibility
Hey FiveWhiteGuys, so much for your “new ideas” and your “diversity.”
Did you even know we once had committees on climate change and voting rights. That’s right, before your GOP buddies mothballed them eight years ago.
That’s OK, I’m sure Madame Speaker will fill you in when she has more time. Just call her office and make an appointment.
Oh, and say hello to our two new best girlfriends…
I guess this article means Pelosi is a Fudge-backer
He is thinking … humm… why did Nancy Pelosi just stick her hand down my throat? … why is she holding a beating heart ? Why do I have this empty feeling in my chest?
Why was it that I thought she was ineffective and not tough?
They mistook her kindness for weakness.
I heard that in an Isaac Hayes song once…
They can vote “present” or vote for one of themselves. Speaker has to win a majority of the votes cast. Assuming +40 dem swing thats 235 dem seats, need 218 out of 435 votes assuming everyone votes. That’s a margin of 17 votes, so if all 16 play games that reduces Pelosi’s margin to 1.
Horse trading happens. Pelosi knows this and is good at dealing with it; a few key votes will get bought off and she will win on the first ballot, unless they deliberately decide to let the first ballot be inconclusive (no one gets a majority) so that purple state reps can claim to have fulfilled their pledge to have voted against Pelosi.
I’m thinking that for many years Pelosi watched what the Freedom Caucus did to Boehner and Ryan and maybe she has a few ideas about how to handle things. One thing she’s got is the courage to stand up to bullies. She’ll be fine.
That’s fine as long as it is all worked out ahead of time. If they need a second round of votes, it will give the press something to shout about but none of that matters as long as Pelosi becomes Speaker.
Yep, and I think it is. This ain’t Pelosi’s first day at the rodeo, and her ability to herd 'c®ats is one of the reasons she should have the job.
I think that anti gay vote will haunt her in a democratic caucus and Nationally.
I thought CA-21 had been called for the Republican. NY 22 has not been called yet, which would make the Dem total 234 and moot the refusniks, assuming that Brindisi is not a refusnik.
I just looked at the list and Brindisi signed, but it would require 17 refusniks if the Dem total is 234.
OK I found out that the lead in CA21 could flip with the counts that will come out tomorrow. Why the hell did the NY Times call it for the Republican?
Behold how politics works.
