Discussion: Frank Pallone Defeats Pelosi Pick For Powerful Energy & Commerce Seat

Discussion for article #230336

So seniority isn’t important if the leader has another person in mind?

Come on, Nancy. You’re better than this.

Good. I’m glad her pick lost. That’s a karma slap there, Nancy. While I personally support a lot of Ms. Pelosi’s positions, I did not support her in turning down Ms. Duckworth’s request to vote from home. That was disgusting display of politics.

it’s the Duckworth payback.

When Karma bites you in the ass it is the worst!

It was a display of playing by the rules. What Rep. Duckworth asked to do is prohibited…it is a violation of House rules. Pelosi upheld the rule…as she has no authority to authorize breaking it.

Now, lots of GOP’er journo’s planted ā€œdisplay of politicsā€ crap about that act. Seems you fell for it.

As for the ā€œmotion to change the rulesā€ crap. It had ZERO chance of passing. The GOP majority isn’t going to change rules to allow another Liberal vote. That is NOT going to happen. It would have been an embarrassment and set a bad precedent. Pelosi is not an evil person…but by all means Democrats…paint her that way. Its what you do…its why you lose and will continue losing.

Try reading up on the Duckworth thing…and try sources other than FOX.

All you need is this tiny thread to see why Democrats are doomed. Just read this one thread with its few posts…and you have the whole thing in a microcosm.

Anybody have a clue about the policy implications of these choices if any?

I never understood the phrase ā€œInside Baseballā€ until I read this. It’s political minutiae of the densest kind, and it’s nothing we need to know.

Anna Eshoo if fabulous, I am sorry she will not get this position.

I’m not suggesting she was right, but seniority doesn’t necessarily equate to competence.

Yes but in Congress, seniority means something.

That’s not true. A motion was made to change the rules and Pelosi actually blocked it. The rules could have been changed. The democratic caucus bases their rules on the floor rules, but there is nothing requiring it.

It might mean something but TPM as usual didn’t bother giving any context, so it certainly doesn’t mean anything to me at the moment.

And that’s a real problem and likely why it’s mostly old white men in leadership jobs.

The ā€˜story’ is that Nancy blocked the suggested rule change to allow Duckworth a proxy because Duckworth would have voted against Nancy’s pick to head a committee. That person lost anyway. Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know.

yes it does but it does not allow her to make an appointment or break House rules. And as Minority leader she really has little authority over events in general. This quibble is quite silly as Pelosi cannot do what she is being called down for not doing. That’s GOP’er success story ( they planted all this crap ) and another failure by the self loathing Democrats.

I would trust her judgment over seniority

There you go again…thinking independently and asking for facts before you make up your mind. How un-Democartic of you. Learn to hate yourself and doubt yourself like the other Dems. You’ll fit in better.
