Unfortunately the semi-auto, detachable-magazine rifles we’re talking about make gobs of money for firearm manufacturers and for the NRA, which more and more acts as their trade association. (The industry would prefer you avoid that allegedly ill-defined term “assault weapon” in favor of their new name: “modern sporting rifle.”) Many shooters love them because they look cool in a high-tech murdery kind of way. And they’re very customizable which, again, helps the industry move that product. And how you gonna resist tyranny without that massive firepower? Wolverines! So no matter what the public’s sentiment is, folks need to get organized and serious about this or it won’t happen. Again.

I commend Gretchen for having the strength and courage to say this when it is not in line with what we could expect to be the opinions of average Fox viewers. I am glad to see that in the wake of so much tragedy, some on the right are coming around to common sense gun control measures.

Two gun manufacturers stocks were down 4 its today whereas on Monday there stocks were up.

So 58% of Americans support an AW ban but 89% of Fox viewers don’t? That right there is the problem. Fox viewers are so far out of mainstream thinking it’s scary. Let’s hope we can get some change in our gun laws and not let the NRA, GOP and Fox viewers win the day.
