Discussion: Fox News Tried To Make A Trump-Sanders Debate Happen

Discussion for article #247047

Drumpf will now insist that no such negotiations took place because if they had, he would have won the negotiations because he’s the best negotiator you’ve ever seen.

O.K., let’s see if I can do this:

“Little Donald is scared to debate because he has small hands and small, you know, whatever. Little Donald is a loser who knows he’d get crushed by Bernie, so he wimps out and slinks off. Sad.”

For someone who talks so tough, the Donald sure chickens out of a lot of debates.

Too bad–I would have enjoyed that. Although, I’d prefer PBS control the moderators.

Really? I think that’s way out of line for Bernie to agree to such a thing. He doesn’t read that as Fox news manipulating the situation? I think I’m over Bernie now.

Actually debates between the candidates in the primaries on both sides would be a good idea, IMO

Well, what remaining respect I had for Sanders is gone. Underneath all the growling the man is a fool. He complains about real problems but doesn’t care to present real solutions. Has no loyalty to the party that has given him a chance to run as a legitimate candidate. And has no idea or concern about how much he would cheapen himself, and the party he is running to represent, if he joined this circus now.

Apparently, even circus barker, wrestling promoter Trump has better sense – the sense to realize this would just be a humiliating sideshow for BOTH candidates – than Bernie.

PBS moderators are so feckless that they don’t control anything during a debate. We’ve already had at least one example.

There already are Trump vs Sanders debates: http://trumpvsbernie.com/

And they’re fantastic.

Absolutely true!

I disagree totally. But that aside, that’s not why Fox News wanted to do this.

I think it was a kind of “Pascal’s Wager” on Bernie’s part. Bernie’s having a debate with Trump could quickly turn into chaos and Trump benefits from chaos, Bernie, not so much. Even if he prevailed, there’s a good chance Bernie would be damaged, especially given that the venue is Fox News. However, on the off chance, that a. Bernie were to stay calm, collected and completely demolish Trump with facts and rhetorical flourish, leaving the latter in a state of jaw-gaping awe, and b., Fox were desperate to stop the Donald and thumb the scales toward Bernie, it might be a game changer for Sanders’ campaign.

Debates with candidates who have turned their own primaries into outrageous pro wrestling matches are not a good idea. If Sanders doesn’t understand that Fox News wanted to use him in the worst possible way – as a sideshow act – he is an idiot,

Well, I meant in general I think debates between the opposing party candidates would reveal much more.

You may be right about Fox and their reason but I was just referring to debates between the opposite party candidates in general.

No, its really not. Primaries are how we choose each parties nominees. Having the media step in and setup debates between two candidates they choose lets them put their thumbs HEAVILY on the scale of who the nominees will be. Which is precisely what FOX is trying to do here.

Once we have nominees, then they can debate each other.

Bernie is waaaaay over the line in even agreeing to debate Trump at this point in time, especially since he is way behind in the delegate count. He wants to wrap himself in a mantle of presumptive nominee, which is completely delusional, but in keeping with the pattern of his campaign claiming endorsements they don’t have, and are actually for the other candidates.

Once again, Fox tried to work the refs (voters) and, sadly, Sanders fell for it. Fox’s goal was most likely to use Sanders to take down Trump by attacking him from the left (something the GOP candidates can’t do) and elevate Sanders because they know he would be far easier tho beat in the general election. Two birds, one stone. And it just goes to show the lengths they’ll go to knock out Clinton.

I thought the DNC had to sanction any and all candidate debates?
