Discussion: Fox News To Hold 2020 Town Hall With Bernie Sanders

Should tell you what Republican strategists think of Sanders’ campaign and how divisive they think he is to Democrats.

Hi Bernie,

Look, I appreciate you helping to move our national political conversations in a more leftward direction, I really do, but a gentleman knows when it’s time to leave the stage, especially if that stage is owned by Fox News.

Fox News? Not a surprise. It’ll be interesting to see the tone of Fox’s reporting.

P.S. It has been 36 days since Bernie Sanders promised to release his tax returns “real soon”.

And I still haven’t seen them.

“Fox News will host Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for a 2020 town hall on April 15. The event will be moderated by hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.”

Well, this should go well.

Maybe he can debate Ralph Nader.

If I was a betting man here’s what I’d wager they do NOT bring up his tax returns:

The thing which speaks for itself.

Really, what more could I add?

Same. This is pretty low down. After Dems cancelled the debate with FOX, it’s a fairly ugly slap in the face for him to then go there to do a Town Hall. And for all the people (deservedly) harping on Donna Brazile for taking a job there thinking she can somehow bring the Democratic message to them, this is just as arrogant. It’s also an attempt to bypass the party and stomp all over the message they’re trying to send to FOX. It’s gross.

Someone on another post mentioned they thought this was a bid by Bernie to get Republican votes in the primary since they have no primary of their own. They can cross over in some states and get him the nomination. However, then they’d vote for Trump in the general so…

They can cross over in open primary states but they won’t without a good reason. They crossed over in '08 and voted in our primary for Obama because they didn’t think he had a chance and they did not want Hillary to win the nomination.

So there was a good reason to cross over. IF they don’t have a primary this time then I expect they will cross over in open primary states. The GOP is more apt to cross vote in the primary than we ever are.

It’s so tone-deaf that it makes me confused as to his motives. Irritating though I find him and (especially) his bros, I don’t think St. Bernie the Pure actually wants to divide the Democratic electorate†. I don’t think he’s twirling an invisible mustache trying to destroy the party or get Republicans elected†. I think he actually believes in the core message he articulates†. Has a lifetime of considering himself above parties made him just totally blind to how this looks? Does he really just like to hear himself talk?

I dunno. It sure is something. Much as when you stumble upon a gangrenous flayed moose corpse in the woods, you might say, “wow, that sure is something”.

† I am much less sure about the motivations and intentions of his various advisers.

Interesting thought, but April 15 is pretty late in the primary schedule. If that’s the plan he at least needs to pull the stunt before March 3 (super tuesday). There just aren’t very many states with primaries after April 15 that permit crossover voting.

The way I read it, is that Bernie is facing a much wider and more diverse field of candidates this time. So any extra exposure he can get is good exposure, even if it’s outside the mainstream for Democratic candidates. It’s a free political ad, and maybe he can peel off a few Independents if he gets the nomination.

Maybe that’s being too charitable and there’s some ulterior motive, but it’s probably just that simple.
