Discussion: Former Prosecutors Sound Alarm Bells Over Politicization Of Justice

Politicization of Justice, of voting rights as well by Republicans amply demonstrate they believe in an autocratic model of government. I think if you believe in democracy, Republicans have proven themselves unworthy of your vote.

I can’t think of a single national Republican independent of Trump who’s still fighting the good fight. They are all complicit.

Even the Marine serving almost 7/24 in the WH seems to have forgotten his sense of honor and patriotism.

The author is correct in stating that “There’s no evidence that the White House had a direct hand in any of those actions.” There is an equal absence of evidence that they did not. Occam’s Razor tells us which proposition is more likely.

These people are complaining about serious, dangerous transgressions of the norms and boundaries that made our inherently unworkable form of government function. We have gotten so used to Republicans viewing those norms and boundaries as weaknesses to be exploited and, indeed, deliberately breaking them because it’s democracy itself they’re at war with, that we are almost complicit in the normalization of their behavior.

Worse yet, republican politicization of DoJ puts democrats in a catch-22 situation when/if they regain power. Fullbore prosecution of crimes committed by republicans looks superficially like tit-for-tat, but failure to prosecute just ratchets the whole country further toward rightwing lawlessness.

DOJ was highly politicized under President Bush the Lesser. It again became apolitical under President Obama. Now under “45” the DOJ is not only politicized, but is an organ of harassment of Trump’s “enemies” and 2016 defeated political rival. Unless this is stopped dead in its tracks, the US is on the verge of becoming a nominally free country that is in truth an authoritarian regime, like Russia, Turkey, Venezuela, or Hungary.

It’s now getting very scary for our freedom.

Republicans see every agency, every instrument, every institution of democracy as a means to keep power. They no longer have any other function or purpose.

Both Grassley and Graham have lately seemed eager to defend the administration in connection with the Russia investigation. Graham has called for a new special counsel to probe alleged anti-Trump bias in the DOJ and FBI.

Hmmm, I wonder what their connection to Russia is… hoping it’ll come out soon.

Because Rump needs him.
It’s happening at the state level too.

Honest to goodness if they invent a reason to put HRC in prison and then try to do so I hope HRC pulls an Assange and seeks asylum in some Embassy. HRC, please, please, please have a plan just in case these traitors get what they want.

If you’re talking about Kelly, he was the original collaborator. Anybody remember his blatant, obvious and racist lies about Mrs. Johnson and Rep. Wilson?

Why are Dem electeds not screaming bloody murder about this? Why are they not pouring sand into the wheels of this misgovernment however they can? Why is every revered public figure in America not now delivering urgent civics lessons in bumper sticker format?

I think the only reason the Republicans haven’t been able to do more of this, and things like abusing the power of the IRS, is the strength of our civil service system in standing up to their political shenanigans. I suspect we will see more of these kinds of things this year though, as the Republicans gain in traction through installing new people and some people being fired or retiring. We’re very close to them overwhelming the system…the way the Republicans keep ignoring the norms of our system make me wonder if the system can survive long enough to throw them out of office, or if they will go willingly.

Hey where’s that big beautiful primates flinging feces meme.

IOW Trump is the 21st century’s Nixon.

If Nixon had a low IQ, no policy knowledge, work ethic, or interest in learning, Trump and he would be identical.

Very true! But just wait for a new division of the DOJ, modeled after the Gestapo, to appear.

“There’s no evidence that the White House had a direct hand in any of those actions.”

But a good servant can anticipate their master’s commands.

Well there are the countless tweets and interviews urging this exact action. So I’d say it’s more paying attention than anticipation.
