Discussion: Former Prosecutors Sound Alarm Bells Over Politicization Of Justice

“Will no one rid me of this terrible investigation? Sad.”

Reminds me of the time Ron Reagan was asked about a comparison that some at the time were making between his father and George W. Bush. Indignant, Reagan said “My father crapped bigger ones than George Bush.” Nixon was evil, but he definitely crapped bigger ones than Trump.

It seems to me that it shows a Republican Party that does not have confidence in its own policies. They feel the need to oppress opposition because they cannot count on support from the majority of Americans. Rather than moderate their policies they choose to destroy the foundations of American greatness.

If Republicans were clean they wouldn’t be so willing to cave. I think they all have skeletons in their closets, they’re all complicit. Probably some Dems too but the R’s are weaponizing the DoJ.

The US Justice system is deeply corrupt.

Not all of it, just the part the Republics can control.

“leak investigation”

hehe…hehehehehe…HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!

Oh, PP, the fun never ends…

It all makes pretty obvious sense though, right? Half the country was already convinced the justice system was corrupt because it failed to hand them political scalps on demand. How do you convince the other half to join them in that belief? Simple: blatantly corrupt the justice system to hand out political scalps on demand. Voila…the entire country now has no faith in the justice system, which is to say it no longer really exists, because consensus as to its legitimacy and integrity is its keystone.

I’d prefer she stood and fought. Should she run, it’ll be a de-facto admission of guilt that we would never hear the end of.

If they want to prosecute, let them. The Discovery phase will reveal them for the liars and thieves they are. The investigations that took place before now cleared her. I don’t imagine a different outcome, even for these nitwits.

But if she runs, all bets are off and the crowing about her admission of guilt by avoiding prosecution will be endless. No one needs that.

They want to get rich too, and see liberals get “butt hurt.” But power comes first, because it enables the other two and, well, just because.

I have told myself it’s because they’re letting Mueller do his work and that will produce the best outcome in the end. But as things go farther off the rails, there may come a point where just waiting for Mueller doesn’t make sense any more. And it does seem that they could be saying a lot more now without getting in Mueller’s way.

And his crack about Trump using that ceremonial sabre against media critics.

Directly corrupting the machinery of law enforcement is another piece of the puzzle and there is likely to be more of that kind of aggressiveness in future as Republicans become increasingly entrenched.

For example, vote suppression is not the only tool in the electoral corruption arsenal. Circumstantial evidence including statistical analysis strongly suggests the vote tally itself is being manipulated in multiple states; e.g., http://electiondefensealliance.org/landslide_denied_exit_polls_vs_vote_count_2006

And analysis of leading voting machine vendors reveals one source of the corruption may be domination of the field by the poorly vetted and least trustworthy; e.g., https://medium.com/@jennycohn1/states-have-bought-voting-machines-from-vendors-controlled-and-funded-by-religious-fanatics-1773f0b5f83e

“Democracy no longer ends with a bang—in a revolution or military coup—but with a whimper: the slow, steady weakening of critical institutions, such as the judiciary and the press, and the gradual erosion of long-standing political norms.” ~ Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt (How Democracies Die, 2018)

I meant only if they’re actually coming after her with an orange jumpsuit and cuffs. They’re nitwits, no doubt about that, but they’re also so crazy I would hate to see anyone in jail over a friggin’ vendetta. kwim?

Both Grassley and Graham have lately seemed eager to defend the administration in connection with the Russia investigation. Graham has called for a new special counsel to probe alleged anti-Trump bias in the DOJ and FBI.

They know where this is going and they are scared. They aren’t ready to retire to Leavenworth yet.

The GOP is a bunch of spineless enablers trying to get what they can, while they can. They could give a damn about what Trump says/does so long as they get to continue their attack on America.

Make America America Again!

Run for office- the 2018 elections are 10 months away! And if Trump and Louie Gohmert and Steve King can get elected what’s to stop a qualified candidate?

Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes it’s a Ward officer. You’ll meet with neighborhood Dems and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office.

Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that.

Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump and half of eligible voters stayed home last November. Today’s 12-year olds will be voting for President in 8 years.

Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly.

Get appointed to your Planning Commission. Know everything going on in your community.

Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020, just over 2 years from now, when we redraw Congressional Districts.

And get rid of GERRYMANDERING! Safe GOP seats gave us such intellectual giants as Louie Gohmert and Steve King. In most cases it’s the state Legislature that draws Congressional boundaries. Make it FAIR, OPEN and HONEST! We can do this!

Overturn Citizens United. Money is NOT speech and Corporations are NOT people- at least not until Texas executes one, and overturn any voter ID laws that are clearly an attempt to disenfranchise the poor and people of color.

I’m saying, ‘attempts to politicize’. Trounce and Co want final say there is no doubt and there is a small army of numbskulls that would aide in allowing his full control over themselves.
But as with all our rights, the vast majority is wholeheartedly against handing over our hard won freedoms.

The fact that the right is standing unopposed to the effort is certainly a worry but this will hardly be the first fight lost for the Trumpties and sickeningly not the last.

That’s how I felt about them ever since I first came to the US twenty tears ago. The utter contempt of the GOP for democratic norms was already fully apparent back then. It just kept getting worse and more blatant. A steady slide towards fascism.

Not really. Nixon was never the narcissistic egomaniac Trump is; he would never have done most of things Trump routinely did in the latter’s business – stiffing creditors, stiffing/blackmailing contractors, scheming to avoid renting to blacks, Trump U, etc. Nixon actually diagnosed his downfall perfectly during his farewell speech to his staff, and none of these admonitions would ever occur to Donald:

“Remember, always give your best. Never get discouraged. Never be petty. Always remember, others may hate you. But those who hate you don’t win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself.”
