Discussion: Former Prosecutors Break Down What Mike Flynn’s Plea Deal Really Means

Is Kushner next? How about Pence? They’re starting so close to the top, there aren’t many likely high profile suspects left. I guess they will work their way down the chain to all the bit players at some point also but there is plenty of time to go that direction.

Also, if Mueller does NOT get what he wants out of Flynn, he can always charge him with the other offenses; Money Laundering, Failure to Register as a Foreign Agent, etc.

He has a MASSIVE Sword hanging over Flynn neck (not to mention Flynn Jr.) and will use it if need be.

I think Flynn did this more to protect his own son than himself.

I hope Democratic Congress Members, and people calling their Republican Congress Members today, remind GOP Congress critters that they may not want to pass their tax cut only to have it signed by a President who’s rapidly losing legitimacy, and may be facing “many, many” charges against him.

Just to be proactive:

Dear Donald Trump,

People generally do not plead guilty to FAKE NEWS. Just sayin’.

P.S. Merry Christmas, muthafucka! (Yeah, you were right. We all will be saying Merry Christmas again…)

Senior Transition Officials: Pence, Jared, or…?

One has nothing to do with the other.

They don’t care about Trump. He’s only the meatbag required by law to hold the pen. They’ll happily serve him up if it helps them next year.

This is for their donors, so this would pass no matter what.

Honestly, probably both.

But only the biggest, best charges.

You’re right, the tax cut and Trump’s rapidly declining legitimacy technically have nothing to do with one another (except for Trump), but the optics are bad:

Republicans Pass $1.5 Trillion Tax Cut That Benefits Trump And His Family On Same Day That Trump Is Implicated In Russian Meddling By His Former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn

Predictably, the right wing media - such as Andrew McCarthy at National Review - are arguing that the plea agreement shows how Mueller really has nothing against Trump. Flynn was perfectly right to have the conversations with the Russians, that’s what incoming National Security Advisers do; Flynn was set-up for a lying to FBI charge by the Obama administration; and this furor surrounding the Flynn plea is just ridiculous.

Not

The question now is which will come first – the next round of charges, or the next round of attempted obstruction of justice?

On the one hand, I love how Mueller has methodically tightened the noose around members of Trump’s transition team, seemingly to develop strong cases against more senior members. On the other hand, I’m frankly terrified that Trump will pull a big “rocket man” as a way to take the focus off Mueller’s investigation.

Given Mueller’s track record, I agree 100% with these analysts that there is no way Flynn would be getting off as light as one count of lying to the FBI unless he has already offered up some very juicy details of some very serious criminal behavior among those above him. And there are only a few people who meet that description – Trump, Pence, Kushner…anybody else?
