“why didn’t you defend us.” This is the same party that advocates sticking a probe in the vagina of pregnant women to probe that they are pregnant. This is the same party that will demonize Planned Parenthood endlessly. This is the same party that wants to deny women who have been raped or incestuously abused of the right to an abortion. This is the same party that has done nothing for the Zika virus because it might lead to more birth control or abortion. This is the same party that fights like hell against the minimum wage which will have a tremendous impact on poverty of single moms and their children. And you wonder why they don’t defend you from a pig like Trump. You’re hanging with the wrong crowd.
Not really, if you’re a republican in this day and age then you are a soul-less, careless creature. You don’t get points for that.
She used the word courageously and Cruz in the same sentence.
Bite me!
Amanda just learned that Republican’ts have no R-E-S-P-E-C-T for women, in the party or out of the party.
How deluded.
“Trump will probably be off on his next grand scheme by 2017, but the party will left in the rubble he created. And, if the next GOP autopsy has any credibility, it needs to contain political obituaries for Trump’s most ardent defenders,” Carpenter wrote.
The rubble wasn’t created by Trump. It was created by the millions of cracks in the party’s foundation that resulted from repeated crazy claims, obstructionism, demonizing Obama and “libtards,” and the general manner in the way the GOP has devolved into a party of racist, nativist conspiracy nuts. Trump just answered the call as the natural leader in the conditions they created. It’s like filling a pool with a fetid swamp and then blaming the snake that showed up.
Second, the first GOP autopsy was not too long ago. It was roundly ignored, except when it was ridiculed. That was maybe the first indication that the GOP would keep moving in the direction they have. I wouldn’t expect the party that’s been lying to themselves and their base for 8+ years to possess the ability for honest self-reflection just because they lost. Not when they can blame Trump for tricking them and the unfair media for egging him on and unfairly pointing it out.
I believe she was sincere when she expressed shock that her fellow R’s and C’s succumbed to Trump. The very foundation of her belief that the men of her party would stand up and defend her, and women in general, has been rattled to the core. I too have experienced the sense of betrayal she is feeling. The painful lesson to be learned is that Trump exposed how weak and shallow her boss and all the other R candidates are. This group of R’s was portrayed as powerful, influential candidates who deserved to be considered as presidential material. Instead they were literally Steamrolled by Trump. Exposed as posers, and ultimately, people with no convictions or moral fiber. She should now realize that her boss was a flim-flam man who got out flimed and out flammed by a man with a Black Belt in deception.
I don’t know her but if I had to guess (because my sister in law is similar) they come from well-heeled religious families where they don’t expect to personally grapple with the more difficult aspects of life. The problem here is an acute lack of empathy with other people of all kinds – it’s not as if she jumped to the defense of Mexicans or Muslims or all the other people that Trump demonized. She didn’t expect people like her to ever be such an open target. Even now, I bet she finds ways to divorce the funding of Planned Parenthood from Trump’s open misogyny as well as Cruz’s support for Trump. Not connecting the dots between themselves and the rest of us is what they do for a living.
“Ever since Trump announced his candidacy 17 months ago, it’s been like watching political body snatchers take over the party, replacing previously respectable men . . .” Umm a quick question. When was Cruz ever respectable?
One wonders how she could work so closely with Cruz and not realize that his motivations were not for the benefit of the entire country, but rather for self-aggrandizement.
You’re gonna be waiting a long, long time.
Amanda, please enlighten us as to how your former boss failed to become president. According to him and his mentally ill father, god anointed Teddy to be POTUS. The world is waiting to find out why it is that god actually prefers a Democratic woman over a Republican man. (crickets).
So all the decades of racism and xenophobia and misogyny was just peachy-keen fine with her, but when Trump starts bragging about assaulting white women then that’s a step too far?
I used to think that there might be “moderate Republicans” left, but this election that soundly disabused me of that notion. Nor do I think it’s enough that the Republicans be stomped into the dirt electorally. I think that dirt needs to be sown with salt, dug up, encased in concrete and then have acid poured in before it’s capped.
Yes, a “moderate” teabagger is one who’s run out of bullets.
Um, my comment was snark … please turn meter up a notch.
Yea but you supported Cruz. How much better was he in reality?
“replacing previously respectable men with dead-eyed zombies who readily salute 'Mr. Trump”
I’m not surprised that a woman who worked for Cruz starts with a flawed premise.
This is a characteristic of conservatives that is a result of their complete lack of empathy. Nothing is a problem until it affects them directly. All those other women – poor women, black women, Latinas, working single moms, etc. – simply don’t register with her because she has no capacity to understand their problems or feel their pain. It’s only when respectable professional white women – her own peer group – is exposed to attack that she suddenly realizes that something is not right with her male Republican colleagues: “We defended you when you attacked all these other women, why aren’t you standing up for us now?”
The answer is quite simple. They don’t have any empathy either.
I am going to go in the opposite direction of most posters here.
Amanda Carpenter is woo-able right now to come to the Light side. She has been royally pissed at Trump since the beginning, and has been increasingly frustrated with rest of the GOP for precisely the reasons she is stating here…they don’t believe or stand for anything.
"If you stand for nothing, Burr, what’ll you fall for?’
She needs a compelling story, something to believe in right now, that can be backed up…and she will jump ship. And as much as we all hate her for working for Cruz, etc…she is one of the few actual smart ones. And I would much rather the smart ones be on our side.
“Why” they haven’t defended you is because, sadly most of them have no real principles except power itself. True for many on the other side as well. Often, relying on principles is incompatible with winning elections, so that is the wrong game to be in if you are a true believer.
