Discussion for article #234020
I’m not sure why this qualifies as a TPM story, but the guy is probably just an asshole. Lots of them out there, particularly in the political sphere.
Not too surprising. Most GOP operatives and pundits get the job because they’re professional bullies.
Would you rather have more Broadcity?
The Black-Shirts will not tolerate any negative information about their glorious leader!
You have to understand the feeling of entitlement Brownback and his band of supporters feel toward the people of Kansas. In their minds, Kansans exist to serve Brownback and his henchmen.
Not that, no, no, not that.
"Kensinger…said that he confronted Weekly as a parent who believed she had “compromised the
educational environment for the students.”
Right. sure. Whatever you say. But just a few weeks ago…
“(Governor Brownback) will cut the state’s regents universities by 2 percent and public schools by 1.5 percent across the board, for a combined savings of $44.5 million. The cuts were announced after the state missed its January revenue expectations by $47 million.”
Ha!–You speak truer than you know. Yesterday on the NPR station here in Wichita, there was a story about the state wanting to cut $7 million from the U of Kansas’ main campus’s operating budget over the next two years and transfer that money to its medical school (which is trying to become certified as a cancer research center). The president of KU responded by saying that the med school isn’t separate from the rest of the university but privileging one branch of the university doesn’t benefit the rest of what it does–it just weakens those other functions. He didn’t make this ironic analogy, but it’s there for the making: The med school thus becomes a kind of tumor within the body of the university by drawing resources away from the rest of the university.
But the med school is being privileged in this way because it’s drawing research dollars. Medicine is a trade, too, and that’s what helps pay the bills.
In Kansas they’re called Brown Streaks.
after reading the Topeka paper’s reporting of Kensinger’s behavior, I blame demon rum.
Yup. Add as well to the mix the fact that for the past year Brownback’s administration has been defying a state supreme court judgement that the state, because its K-12 schools are underfunded, is in violation of the state constitution; the fact that last year the legislature passed a bill that forbids teacher’s union dues from being taken out of teachers’ paychecks; the fact that, if projected revenues continue to fall short; there may be a move to make up some of that shortfall by withdrawing money from the state’s pension fund (the vast majority of whose participants are teachers and professors); and the fact that there have been some instances in which university faculty have been reprimanded for saying less-than-politic things about issues near and dear to conservatives; and you wind up with a very-toxic relationship between this administration and educators at all levels.
Same situation here in Arizona, where our Tea-Party Governor and his Minions in the legislature refuse to pay back all the money that the court says the state owes school districts. They also cut the university system’s budget by another 30 million dollars a couple of days ago. I hate these lying, grifting assholes.
None of this belt-tightening, however, has kept the Republican-controlled Legislature from moving ahead on even more tax cuts, like the income tax indexing plan approved by the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday, which would result in the loss of $30 million in revenues this year.
Arizona! Gateway to Utah.
Likely the same Brownback aide who went after a teenager who had the temerity to send a critical tweet about Brownback and demand punishment #heblowsalot
Apparently, in Kansas, it’s assholes all the way down.
Brownback’s Brownshirt 'Berates" Teacher Who mentioned Guv in Speech…there FIFY!
it might be inappropriate for a lobbyist to berate a teacher
You think? Be grateful he didn’t “berate” her until she killed herself…
Cause its a Friday, aka, slow news day.
Either Missouri lobbyists lack common hygienic sensibilities?
Or Mr Kensinger was separated at birth from his twin Fred Flintstone.
