Discussion: Flake Warns He'll Force Tariff Vote By Blocking Trump Judicial Nominations

True. It’s the only long-term goal he’s likely to accomplish and he knows it. But this could facilitate that if there’s a faction of Rs that are freaking out over the tariffs and feel it’s vital to their campaigns to end them. The GOP situation is pure dilemma now and has been for a long time. When Trump started winning it was like one frostbitten toe they were scared to cut off. Now both legs are gangrenous past the knees. You piss off the base and you have a problem, you piss off the rest of the nation and you have another problem. You do nothing, you have a problem. You allow a trade war and piss off contributors, you have a problem. It could be that facing being voted out, a lot of people may figure McConnell’s legacy isn’t their main concern right now. McConnell might think that himself. He loses his majority, he’s not in good shape either.

I stand corrected!

Exactly. The tariffs are hurting well-connected republicans (bet congresspeople are getting an earful) and Trump’s deplorables, whether they want to admit it or not (actually, some are already screaming).

Republicans want their judicial appointments. Get rid of tariffs and then ram them through. That means Trump is seen to be caving again, but I’m not sure his voters will care.

No. Long long way to go yet.

I just saw this elsewhere. It is horrible from the invading image to the dismantling of the courts. He is a thug. Deny them due process to make their case and deport on the spot. He promotes the idea of the arresting officer having the power to do anything he/she wants -judge, jury, executioner. It makes a mockery of our Constitutional form of government.

No spine there, even if the Senate were to pass the tariff bill at this late date the House will do nothing. Flake is grandstanding hoping to run for President in 2020 or 2024 as the “good” Republican. All he need do to slow Trump’s roll is caucus with the Democrats. He and Corker are not patriots, they are brazen opportunists.

Nevertheless, halting the Fed appointments to the Judiciary would be awesomel

No Second Coming.

If Maria and her baby Jesus, and her carpenter
husband Jose fled to America to save the infant’s life; The Trump
regime would send them back to be killed.

OT maybe Trump lost this week.

Maybe it is why Flake is willing to hold up votes on judicial candidates. He should and has nothing to lose.I dunno but a girl can hope.

Surely Flake can find a better reason than tariffs to take this worthwhile stand. Anticipation of the number Trump’s tariffs are about to do on his “turbocharged” economy.-- and the excuses he will have to come up with – has been a rare source of pleasure for me. Leave tariffs be, people!

For Trump, there are two types of people; Donald Trump, and losers

Who’da thunk, I love Rick Wilson.

Well, sure, everything you’ve written is true - 28% of this so-called presidency on a golf course from which he profits every.single.time! And now he’s proclaiming that refugees and asylum seekers should not only not get their day in court, they should be turned away immediately at the border.

but her emails…

I almost can’t even stomach what’s going on right now and I don’t know what to do with myself.

Yes. There is a road. And Trump has lost a few people for sure. But he has a gift for pleasing his base. Hate and more hate. the most divisive public figure I can remember in my lifetime. He runs rings around Nixon and Reagan because he doesn’t feel the need for even a fig leaf. An unmitigated schlockmeister of a hate-meister. We need to pray, friend.

I’m so proud and also feeling sad that our should have been president can keep a sense of humor. I did once hear a man say that to me (think he was a berner), and I was literally speechless. For once in my life. Couldn’t find the words to reply.

He cheats at golf too, everyone he’s play with says so, and my better half, a long time avid golfer who heeds the protocols of the game is furious at the thought of it.

Well, that’s because he lacks, you know, principles.

The ignorants love him even more when he displays more hate.
