Looks like Flake has found the fence he can sit on for the moment.
One step forward, two steps back. You schmuck.
Turn up something. Huh.
There sure was a big fat something in that hearing.
He seems to be in that position quite often (which makes all of yesterday’s praise of Flake a bit hollow) This is in contrast to the two women who confronted Flake - I consider them the real heroes of yesterday.
They already DID turn up something, you jackass. He and Collins (and formerly McCain) and Corker (and once upon a time Graham) and even Sasse like to pretend they have concerns, but they NEVER buck the party. Never. They have sold country for party (and I assume they have also been threatened, blackmailed, or their children’s futures threatened with destruction). It’s bribery and extortion from top to bottom in the GOP.
IF they do turn up something and IF Flake then votes against Kavanaugh he will move up 1 peg in my estimation
“The Supreme Court is the lone institution where most Americans still have some faith,” Flake said. “And then the U.S. Senate as an institution—we’re coming apart at the seams. There’s no currency, no market for reaching across the aisle. It just makes it so difficult.”
Something like this?
.
The magazine’s McKay Coppins asked Flake if he planned to continue supporting Kavanaugh’s confirmation “unless the FBI finds something in the next week that changes your mind?”
“Yes,” the senator, who’s retiring at the end of this term, replied. “I’m a conservative. He’s a conservative.”
“I plan to support him unless they turn up something—and they might,” Flake added.
They’re probably going to find a TON of stuff. It’s the FBI, they deal with crime syndicates and terrorism, looking into some schmuck’s college years is like playing Scrabble compared to that
He gets no points from me for basic humanity.
Its a background investigation and the two ‘judges’ (Trump and McConnell) reading next week’s report are Triumvirate members.
“I’m a conservative. He’s a conservative.”
No, you’re a loyal Republican. He’s a loyal Republican. And party over country is Republicans’ very life-force.
The word conservative has no real meaning among Repugs. Trump is a conservative. Rand Paul is a conservative. Rick Scott is a conservative. Future senator Mitt Romney is a conservative. It’s a word they use to separate themselves from their increasingly treasonous and dysfunctional party. It’s virtue-signaling to the far right. They’re not RINOs! But the reality is they are all slavishly bound to the party and to Trump, the person who embodies their treason and dysfunction.
Are you saying that nothing comes of it?
He’s the consummate “centrist”. No surprise.
If Mark Judge simply dissembles or outright lies, Kavanaugh is guaranteed to be on the SC.
Prediction: Judge will “not recall” the event Christine Blasey Ford described. There will be some internal inconsistencies in what the FBI finds. Republicans – with the only possible exception of Murkowski – will be OK with all that.
To be clear about CFM: no honest person would be struggling with the decision to confirm Kavanaugh. This is all about spinelessness and which way the wind is blowing. These people are perfect examples of cover-your-ass all the way weathervanes.
One other thing: Kavanaugh has full-blown covert narcissistic personality disorder.
Addendum: The Senate is perfectly OK with being lied to by Kavanaugh. There is no reason why that should change during the forthcoming week.
I doubt anything will be added to Blasey Ford’s story but the casual lies Kavanaugh told in his effort to deflect it might just come to the top. He says he might have encountered her. She dated one of his buds. I remember the girls my friends dated when I was in high school. I might not have known them well but for the time they were dating the girls became important in my social circle. He says Renata Alumnis is a statement of affection he and his gang had for one young woman. The fact is when that kind of thing is stated among high school boys it always means they all claim to have had sex with her. It is the claim that is important. It is very likely that none of them had sex with her, but teenage boys will be teenage boys among themselves. That lie was unnecessary. Same with all the stuff about beer and the drinking age in Maryland. Underage kids find a way to get beer, but they all know they are underage. He knew he was underage during this period of time, but he just couldn’t admit he did anything against the law. For me his unwillingness to admit that he once was an adolescent and behaved like one is pretty disqualifying. He lacks the humanity and maturity to be on the Supreme Court.
To my mind what does he define as “something?” Is Judge’s x girlfriend telling stories that she says Judge told her count? Does Judge’s book with stories of their escapades count. Does Yale’s folklore about his drinking count? Does any provable lying under oath count? What is “something?”
I believe a copy goes to every member of Congress-- and then of course via leak to the entire nation.
