Discussion: Flake: 'I Plan To Support [Kavanaugh] Unless They Turn Up Something—And They Might'

“Yes, of course I’m still a loathsome, slimy, heartless asshole at my core,” Flake continued. “Did you think my little stunt changed that, or that a little thing like credible reports of multiple sexual assaults would sway my world-view? LOL — what is rape compared to corporate tax cuts? Like, duh.”

And what is the definition of conservative? What is the line between conservative and reactionary ( and for that matter just plain crazy)?

Sen. Flake takes a stand:

Something will come from it, but unless its something that has ‘Cecil’ saying ‘wait a second’, it won’t be anything that keeps Kavanaugh from being an associate.

It’ll be interesting to see who the Bureau speaks with, but a report that is going to be seen by Trump and the ‘fence sitters’ had better have something earth shattering in it.

And then the U.S. Senate as an institution—we’re coming apart at the seams. There’s no currency, no market for reaching across the aisle. It just makes it so difficult.

Feckless hypocrite. There is a reason that the Senate is coming apart at the seams and it is specifically the greedy actions of the GOP pillaging our country for personal and corporate gains. .

Question… what kind of a man are you Mr. Flake that you can’t step aside from politics and call out these massive immoral actions that only support the ultra wealthy.

Answer… not as good of a man as you seem to think you are.

Agreed, but I don’t think they were casual or unimportant lies, as they go right to the heart of his attitude, character, and behavior at the time In question. The things he lied about go right to the material matter of whether he was a drunken, entitled jerk who treated girls like cheap objects for sex and humiliation. He lied because to admit these things lends credence to Dr. Ford’s allegation.

Cuomo interviewed another classmate last Thurday night by the name of Lynne Brookes. She said he lied about his drinking also. She’s also a Republican:

“There is no doubt in my mind that while at Yale he was a big partier, often drank to excess,” she said. “And there had to be a number of nights where he does not remember. In fact, I was witness to the night that he got tapped into that fraternity, and he was stumbling drunk in a ridiculous costume saying really dumb things. And I can almost guarantee that there’s no way that he remembers that night.”

Brookes added that her old classmates were texting and emailing about how Kavanaugh was lying before the Senate Judiciary Committee in his hearing.

“I drank to excess many nights with Brett Kavanaugh,” she said.

Brookes also recalled a time she claimed Kavanaugh and a friend barged into a room where a “guy and girl had gone off together, and embarrass that woman.”

“The girl was mortified,” Brookes said.

At the end of the interview, Brookes accused Kavanaugh of “blatant lying.”

Whenever these spineless weasels waffle and bluster about “definitive proof” or “corroboration,” as if they’re writing a report on the elements of a crime, make no mistake that what they’re really saying is that there is almost no amount of witness testimony that could sway them; that it doesn’t matter to them that Kavanaugh has already provably and repeatedly lied to the Senate under oath about his behavior at the time in question; and most importantly, that they are calling Dr. Ford a liar. Make no bones about it, that’s what they’re doing — calling her a liar. Because any decent person who found her testimony even the slightest bit credible should already be running to cast their “NO” vote as fast they can rather than putting a rapist on the Court. By voting yes or by waffling, what you’re saying is that she’s lying or that you don’t care that Kav is a rapist. It’s as simple as that.

Just saw an article on The Daily Beast - which I will not link to - titled “The Sexual Assault Survivors Who Believe Brett Kavanaugh Over Christine Blasey Ford”

They were originally going to do a story called “Lynching Survivors Who Believe The Ku Klux Klan Over Their Black Accusers” but, for some strange reason, they couldn’t find any survivors to interview.

Gee, Jeff. You didn’t act so high and fucking mighty demanding verifiable proof when the GOP spent untold millions persecuting and harassing Hillary Clinton and subjecting her to 11 hours of questioning by a House Committee kangaroo court. But I guess that was then, and this is now.

Blow me, Flake. And you’d better start staying out of that Arizona sun. You’re beginning to resemble a genetic experiment involving a human being and a baked potato.

Flake did something helpful yesterday by any estimation in that he he hit the pause button and stopped the juggeraut for now.

I’ve heard that he did it because it helps the Republicans who didn’t have the votes but I find that impossible to believe given Grassley’s reaction and the behavior of Graham, Lee and Hatch on the dais.

The country needed this investigation and no matter what Flake’s motivation or the words he is now saying, this is beneficial to the goal of forcing Kavanaugh to withdraw.

A week is an eternity now as the initial shock at Kavanaugh’s performance wears off and people react with an, "Oh, hell no!’’

The very last thing that Kavanaugh wanted as evidenced by his duel with Durbin is an FBI investigation and Flake has provided us with that as well as extra time for more to come out.

For that I salute him.

This is exactly what I expected from Flake and from other waffling allegedly “moderate” Republicans in the Senate. The call for what was inevitably going to be a limited, artificially shortened “investigation” was simply window dressing and an attempt to throw up some kind of political cover for what they sense to be a growing backlash against voting to confirm Kavanaugh.

Unfortunately, this latest comment from Flake just confirms what I wrote yesterday:

A White House official tells NBC news that the FBI has been instructed to not investigate Julie Swetnick’s (Avenatti’s client) claims.

I think Julie Swetnick is going to have her day, and probably in a bigger way than if she were questioned by the FBI. Michael Avenatti will ram this right up Trump’s, Kavanaugh’s, and Lindsey Graham’s ass. He and his client can create holy hell in the media without any help from the FBI or permission from President Fuckhead. The GOP has forever used the media to screw over people and policies they didn’t agree with, and Avenatti is more savvy than any Republican around, and I believe he is going to make them wish the FBI got involved instead of him.
