Discussion: Firearms Company Unveils Pandemic Survival Kits

Discussion for article #229138

Shouldn’t the kit have some bear arms in there? I have a right to bear arms!

Isn’t taking advantage of people’s irrational fears a sin?

I wouldn’t stoop so low.

They’ve obviously decided that irrational fears is their industry. Like how UPS isn’t a shipping company, now it’s “logistics”. Brownell isn’t just a gun company, it’s an irrational fear company

Giving the people what they think they want. It also moves old stock before their shelf lives expire.

Bear spray…and maybe a wooden spike, a bunch of wolfsbane…

Go to your local pharmacy, get a flu shot (possibly free), buy a bottle or box of store-brand zinc lozenges and save a bundle. Then splurge on some fresher bacon!

All these preppers. About 10 years from now Craigslist is going to be full of discounted near expiration crap in a bucket.

Really?
Don’t people realize that we are living surrounded by and thoroughly infused by bacteria and viruses? The bacteria in our gut are essential to our staying alive. Each of us is a walking talking biota… a world unto ourselves.

Somebody’s going to do it, so it might as well be these guys. You’ve already got teabagger ebola truthers on the radio disputing the science of infection, so it’s only a matter of time before half the population is walking around in filter masks and rubber suits.

I haven’t looked at how they are marketing the kits, but I don’t have any problem with kits of this type in general.

I think those with many months of food in them will result in a lot of waste, but I think it is a good idea to have enough supplies to shelter in place (hunker down) for a few days. I think the relevant agencies in California recommend 72 hrs as a minimum, so that in the case of a quake or fire or other widespread disaster, they don’t have to put as much effort into providing emergency food and water to people.

There probably would be some warning if a 1918-type flu evolved some year, but the run on emergency supplies and preventive medical supplies could leave you facing empty shelves. Having some on hand isn’t a bad idea.

But it is such a great revenue stream. Look at Glen Beck’s 25 year survival food. His Gold coins. His very show. Scare people then sell them the cure. It is the whole modus operandi of the right wing fear radio.

I have a few tubs of mountain house dehydrated foods for whatever emergency that might happen, but I also use them for camping food. It’s really pretty damn good.
