One affected is that pajama-wearing fatass, Blake Farenthold.

It’s rather comforting that Republicans only win elections via anti-democratic shenanigans like this.

I’d hate to be in an America where racists, bigots and misogynists actually made up a majority of the population.

More updated coverage in the Statesman. AG Paxton will stop working on his own defense long enough to appeal to SCOTUS.

Feels like a win. Sadly, I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Uh… guys…
That’s the French flag you’ve photo shopped in the background. I do like the insertion of the white ‘Lone Star’ in the blue field though.

I’m sure the Texass GOP will find another way to slither around this…

Hey, Texas Republicans.

What have you got to lose by electing Trump? What the hell have you got to lose?

I didn’t understand this dissent. Even if true, even if the Feds acted arrogantly, that still doesn’t change the facts on the ground.

I think this says more about Judge Smith than about the Feds who, after all, have won for now.

Judges: “The record indicates not just a hostility toward Democrat districts…”

Even the judicial branch – and even when ruling against illegal GOP partisanship – normalizes Luntzspeak.

(Sigh)

“Federal Judges Find Texas GOP Gerrymandered Maps On Racial Lines.”

A shocking finding.

In other late breaking news, water is once again wet.

Not only was this done on racial lines, it was also done to prevent metro-Austin from having a single Congressional District. If it is one thing Texas Republicans hate more than minorities having power, it is liberal Austinites having power.

I’d hate to be in an America where racists, bigots and misogynists actually made up a majority of the population.

The total American population is about 309 million. Non-Hispanic whites comprised over 63% of that population in 2012, meaning there are approximately 194 million non-HIspanic whites. There were about 96 million white voters in 2016, and Clinton got 37% of them, or about 35 million. That means that approximately 159 million non-Hispanic whites either voted for the most overtly racist, bigoted, and mysogynist Republican candidate and campaign in American political history, or didn’t give a shit and stayed home. That’s just over 51%.

Even if these admittedly back-of-the-envelope calculations are off by a few percentage points, the number of racists, bigots, and mysogynists in America is still depressingly high.

That got me curious and at first I agreed, and wondered who the heck the photographer credit was, so I googled around and found this:

The Dodson Flag, recognized as the first Lone Star flag, flies behind The Texian sculpture at the Texas Flag Park near the Montgomery County Public Library.
http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/woodlands/news/article/Flag-park-to-become-outdoor-museum-9448881.php#photo-11148270

and this, File:Texas Dodson Flag.svg - Wikimedia Commons although the dimensions are different, it’s the same idea.

And this concludes today’s edition of Dr. Sheldon Cooper and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler Present: Dr. Sheldon Cooper’s Fun With Flags.

Yep. I live within a few blocks of the epicenter with all these maps. I used to be in Doggett’s district, when it included the Mexican border I think, but now I’m in McCaul’s. Apparently people who live on one side of the street have a lot in common with Fort Worth and those on the other are more Houston suburb people. And a block down, it’s west Texas. Doggett’s the closest to an Austin rep we have. It’s insane. And the GOP is out for us by an order of magnitude more than usual this session (they’re every two years), and that is saying a lot.

As Molly Ivins used to say about the “Lege,” “Every two years, for 140 days, every village in Texas knows the whereabouts of its idiot.”

Hey Texas, a pie just doesn’t seem appropriate so how about a Choco-taco?

Federal judges found more problems in Texas’ voting rights laws, ruling that Republicans racially gerrymandered some congressional districts to weaken the growing electoral power of minorities…

At some point in the recent past this may have been a problem. Now it's a "problem".

Air quotes make everything better.

As Claude Rains said, “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” Racial gerrymandering in Texas??
