But, was it a “tremendous setback.”
I’m hearing a sad trombone . . . .
I think we need to keep our eyes on the important thing here, which is that his lawyers sucked another 80K out of his pocket running this Hail Mary which they may never receive and, if they do, which puts Manafort measurably closer to the day he cannot pay them.
Ok. Moving right along…
“… he can raise the issue again after the trial.”
In other words, once you’ve been convicted of both charges, you might get one dropped. That taken in conjunction with all your other convictions will result in your sentence being reduced from 150 years to 148.
His business partner is cooperating with the feds. Cohen’s business partner has flipped - and will apparently avoid most jail time. Flynn has flipped - and has so far remained out of jail. As these hail-Mary challenges continue to fail - and it becomes increasingly evident that no pardon will come from Trump, Manafort might begin to think he’s the only one going to jail for Trump.
Manafort better flip before Mueller decides he don’t need Manafort’s testimony. It may already be too late for Paul.
When your strategy is “just throw everything at the wall in the hopes that something sticks” it’s pretty much inevitable that most of the stuff won’t stick. (And quite possibly, none of it will.)
“Multiplicitous” turns out to mean “overwhelming.”
Who knew?
With good behavior, Manafort could qualify for early release in a mere 120 years.
SepARate.
Too bad. So sad. Not. Take your medicine that you so richly deserve, Paulie.
Most high profile criminal trials are matters of throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the walls and watching for what sticks.
And they mostly don’t, as you noted.
Very, very big setback. Many people are saying nobody’s ever had a legal setback as strong as Manafort’s.
Not a “giant sucking sound”, per se, but audible nonetheless. Sort of “Let’s go to the lobby!” if you strain your ears …
The time will soon be upon him when making hail Mary tosses will be too late. That’s when Karma steps in.
"the test for multiplicity is not whether two counts are based on the same set of facts; rather, it is whether the statutory elements of the two offenses are the same,”
That’s pretty basic lawyer-stuff. Manafort’s people must have known there was little chance of the argument flying.
So, there’s going to be a movie at some point. What do you think – William Shatner to play Manafort?
This will be a long weekend for Mr. Manafort. Will he make that call? He was a participant and witness to and in so many important conversations and meetings, I’m sure Mueller would make it easy for him to come in from the cold.
Manafort apparently has unlimited funds to pay for his endless, futile appeals, but he had difficulty funding bail. Who or what is the source of his money?
Who cares what sticks to the wall… Mexico is going to pay for it?
