To be fair, it’s an inappropriate question. You also don’t get to make sure you have a Dem judge versus GOPer judge just because the accused is one or the other. If one of the jurors is behaving in a manner indicative of ridiculous bias, it will trigger a mistrial and Manafort can rot in prison all the longer awaiting a trial that’s not just fair to him, but fair to the public.
How many lawyers wish they could have had evidence thrown out or suppressed because prosecutors got a hold of it because some law-abiding employee provided access to it? Let alone in this case the FBI didn’t touch anything and then went back after the fact to get a warrant. It’s been a while since I studied fourth amendment jurisprudence, but I know that under the case law coming out of Rehnquist and Roberts courts you’re pissing in the wind if you’re arguing against evidence obtained WITH search warrants.
Manafort’s lawyers will probably know everything there is to know about the jurors courtesy of whatever the current incarnation of CA is. The prosecutors? Not so much.
I went by a storage locker facility in Iowa that had a marquee sign that said, “If you think you need a storage locker, you really need a dumpster and some guts.”
On the other side it said, “If you rent a locker, you have too much stuff.”
Why is it surprising that the FBI would learn things from AP reporters. Do reporters think the FBI doesn’t listen when they are being interviewed?
It isn’t even a story except a lot of reporters don’t realize FBI agents know how to listen.
“…or you really need to hide treason with the Kremlin that launders Russian money through the NRA to hundreds of GOP campaigns, installs a bootlicking Putin toady as the American President, and attempts a doomed coup against the US Constitution that ultimately results with you dying in prison along with half the Republican Congress and every White House occupant except Barron’s hamster.”
That hamster knows plenty. If he stays out of jail, it’s because he flipped.
Isn’t it surprising how many otherwise frugal people will end up paying thousands of dollars per year to store junk? (and justify it to themselves as well)
Something tells me Ellis isn’t going to let me enjoy this as much as I should. Perhaps I’ll choose popcorn OR wine instead of both for the proceedings.
Are you writing Beacon’s Storage Lockers advertisements for them now?
So sad when an international bad hombre is found to be incompetent. Someone works for you and quits you get their keys and call the leasing office to get their name off your business’ storage unit. Dumb Paulie, dumb.
@danrad explains part of it:
So there’s that.
That’s not what you meant, though. You were asking if the government side had done anything wrong. In that regard, notice this:
the AP reporters asked the officials if they were “off base” with what they were pursuing, and that they were advised that they had a good understanding of Manafort’s business dealings. Pfeiffer said he did not remember such a remark being made.
From these lines alone you can’t say for sure that anyone did anything wrong; but you can say there will likely be accusations.
But all press is good, no?
I’ve been finding myself mildly, but not clinically, depressed by our current state of affairs.
It’s an existential depression. I don’t need meds. I need Albert Camus to remind me it’s worth going on, to keep pushing that rock up that hill. It’s gotten worse. My daughter, a seasoned defense atty, said some time back she feared the Trumpistas would engineer some scam(s) to have the Mueller investigation muted or sabotaged in some way. She was not predicting it, but just wary that it was not outside the realm of possibility. Now with a sup ct replacement that might just be friendly enough to give Trump a get out of jail ticket, my melancholia may become chronic. We’ve got a gang around this White House like the old Frank Hague band of buccaneers in old Jersey City in the 30s.
Dear Dr. Brothers…What’s a mother to do…?
That’s OK. The judge doesn’t seem particularly clear on the question, either.
There’s many services out there that will scrape the net for whatever public information can be found on potential jurors. What party they’re registered to, how often they’ve voted, what political contributions have been made, whether they own or rent, vehicles registered to them, social media accounts and so forth. It’s not that expensive nowadays.
But what I got about it, is the judge is not going to let them address any political information at all. What magazines you read gives you whether they’re liberal or conservative and how much so.
Probably trying to get the kinks out of it’s back.
I think we’ll learn that it was also laundered through Deutsche bank. Made Trump very beholden to Putin. Maybe Justice Kennedy’s son was complicit in it. Smells to high heaven.
Yes, except you also know that the Roberts Court will not be unduly hampered by principles or precedents, not even its own.
