I’ve heard that crap about rude French. Having been there many times I know that to be untrue.

The French started airstrikes in Syria several weeks ago. There is a lot of tension there now. France is secular, but some of the radical Muslims are trying to push their beliefs on others. The police have not really been helpful. The right move is to engage the majority of the Muslims, yes. But you have to come down hard on the radical assholes, by not doing that you allow them to coordinate attacks. These people are far more dangerous than the Christian nuts here in the US. Instead of trying to stop gay marriage, they prefer to kill or imprison gays.
The killing of Jihadi John could be the motive for the timing.

Young European Muslims are discriminated against and marginalized quite intensely, socially and economically, which makes them a sustained recruitment pool for those radical assholes whose message clearly resonates among them. So yes, come down hard on the assholes but breaking this vicious cycle itself is a long-term challenge, culturally and structurally.
